 Newsletter 70 ~ 27th November 2013
......and ANOTHER BUSY MONTH AHEAD

Well I am back now from Harrogate and what three great shows the Knitting and Stitching Shows turned out to be. I met some wonderful people and made many new contacts and would like to say a special, welcome all new readers to my newsletters. Ruth Issett and I managed to stay upright throughout and we feel pleased in the way our exhibition was received. Thank you to the organisers, to all that came to visit us, to all of you that braved my workshops and to all our fabulous willing helpers, throughout the three shows. Without you we definitely would not have stayed upright.

I had very little time to take photos but did get these few:

Here some of our friends from the Textile Study Group that came to help.
......and here is Anthea Godfrey and Diane Bates. They do not come much glamorous than that, now do they.

Anthea had curated a most wonderful retrospective exhibition which celebrated the life and works of her mother Margaret Nicholson. This is the centenary of her birth in 1913 and work displayed dated from the 1920's through to this century. Seen all together it made you feel breathless in its beauty and included drawings and design work as well as many exquisite completed pieces.

Diane was displaying her own work and her unique fashion drawings and design work are to die for. Just love these ladies.

Best not ask we we are up to here, but it was at the end of the show.

It was a tricky manoeuvre, but had to be done just to check that all crocs where present.

My other leg with the second blue shoe is somewhere behind the other leg, which is behind Viv's orange leg, somewhere in the region of Kev's yellow shoe.........but then again.......!!

COURSES FOR 2014

I will refrain in this newsletter from talking again about courses, but do urge you to go to my website if you are still needing some Christmas present ideas and what could be better than a course at Moor Hall.

There are plenty to choose from but if you do not want to be disappointed, sending me an email to check on availability of courses is the quickest way. But do this before December 7th otherwise you need to wait until after Christmas when you will be prompted again if spaces still available. Book orders need to be with me earlier still.

Two day courses with: Jean Littlejohn, Jan Beaney, Sian Marin, and Dorothy Tucker.
Three day courses with: Ruth Issett together with Bobby Britnell
Four day courses with: Bobby Britnell

Carol Vaughan
Exhibition of recent Paintings

I did mention this in the last newsletter, but thought for all new readers it was worth another mention. This is a unique opportunity of seeing the wonderful paintings of Carol Vaughan. It has been put on by kind invitation of CECILY SASH in her fabulous studio in Presteigne. The studio itself is well worth a visit and is a great venue to show Carols work.

Carol is a great painter and uses colour in such an expressionistic way. I just love her work. This is also an unique opportunity to see the studio in which Cecily Sash works and teaches.

Exhibition opens: 7th to 13th December
Time :                   11.00 to 4.00 daily
Telephone:           01568 708251 for further details
Venue:                  Studio Sash, Presteigne, Powys, LD8 2BE
The studio can be found off the by-pass and is conveniently positioned right next to a car-park.
The Workhouse Gallery and Cafe

THE WORKHOUSE GALLERY AND CAFE in Presteigne, Powys is a great place to visit and they sell the most wonderful carpets and textiles and ethically produced gifts.

I am delighted that they will be sellling some of the beautiful crafted bowls and the woven mats made by my ladies in Kisaabwa, Uganda...........

..........and what is more they have an excellent cafe, where food is freshly prepared from local produce.

So why not make a day of it and visit Carol's exhibition and then go out for lunch at the Workhouse Gallery and Cafe, which is just a little further down the road.

DO DROP ME LINE TO LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GOT ON.

BARKCLOTH to ARTSHOES

One small step towards a brighter future

So many people have now bought some bark cloth to decorate in support of the charity 'Hands up for Uganda'. Thank you so much.

I thought you might like to see a few images of where the bark cloth comes from to give you a fully picture of this project.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this process. The news this week from Kisaabwa is that many of the trees that we have planted are growing well so I look forward to our first harvesting of our own bark cloth

DO GET YOUR COMPLETED BARK CLOTH TO JANET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SHE WOULD LIKE TO GET AS MANY PAIRS OF SHOES FINISHED AS SHE CAN THIS SIDE OF CHRISTMAS

The bark cloth for these shoes was decorated by Marion Jones

Please visit Barkcloth to Artcloth on Facebook to see more shoes in the making.

This project as you will all know now, aims to raise funds and awareness for the charity 'Hands up for Uganda.' If you are looking to support a charity this Christmas, please give this one some thought and thanks to all those who already have.
