News & Updates
From Our President!
Greetings to Our Hub on Canal Supporters,
ï»ż
Your Hub on Canal never sits still—and that’s the way we like it. We are here to bring the benefits of the arts to all the members of our community and we really delivered last month. There’s something happening every day in The Hub, but three major events stand out in the last month. Hub artist Frank Ferrante hosted his annual fundraiser for The Hub’s children’s programs on February 24 th. Frank themed this event to Hollywood musicals and though we know Frank as an excellent oil painter, he wowed a large crowd that night with his saxophone skills.

That same weekend The Hub on Canal teamed with the City of New Smyrna Beach and the Canal Street Historic District to put on the first (now annual) Chalk it Up ! sidewalk chalk art festival. We hosted chalk artists of all ages and all skill levels. We thank everyone who participated, and look forward to an even bigger event next year. You’ll find pictures of this event at: View Photos Here

Spread over late February and early March, we also hosted the 2 nd Annual Hub on Canal Student Film Festival. We hosted a viewing of high school student-created short films and movie posters. The Hub matched these amazing students with Hollywood talent to help them grow their skills and on March 1 st we hosted our own “Oscars” to recognize these budding stars of film and the graphic arts.

Finally, last month we announced our first annual fundraising gala, An Affair of the HeART. It was a 1920’s themed event and we hoped for a good party and all our guests having a good time. That’s not exactly how it turned out. Our gala on March 10 th was a smashing success! We said 150 people could attend. We sold those tickets in 30 days and the party was arguably the social event of the year. There were period cars, a flash mob doing the Lindy, a speakeasy with 35 types of whiskey, silent movies and more. Most who attended came in period garb. Wow! We’ve almost recovered. We thank all who were there. If you were there, you’ve already marked your calendar for next year’s event (new theme-yet to be announced) on March 9, 2019. If you were not, mark that date now and stay tuned. View the revelry at Keys To Our City Photos.

Thank you for your support of The Hub on Canal.

”Unveiled”reveals the complex and multilayered terrain of a mind and memory which make an identity."

THIS EXHIBIT
This project follows a series of themes and exhibitions I have created about connecting to foreign lands. Here on the contrary it is about unveiling disconnection, resistance, adjusting , asserting your own identity and digging ‘your guts ” out while knowing that in the end, nothing lasts. This vision started with the influence of cubism.
