One in 20 Americans will get colorectal cancer during their lifetime and 3-5 percent of those people will have either Hereditary Nonpolyposis colon cancer or FAP, familial adenomatous polyposis. The average age of onset of colorectal cancer is 63 years with 90% occurring after age 50.
BUT, the hereditary variety occurs much earlier.
