The Resource Connection
Weekly Update

What a disappointing and frustrating week.  Seems like Pennsylvania is our new nemesis. First Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter. And then there was Sunday's Not So Super (for us) Bowl. It was a great game but a disappointing outcome for New England fans.

Phil's prediction seems spot on as there is a snow event predicted for  Wednesday, so we are doing some juggling here.  First  you are getting this a day early! Due to the snowy weather predicted we are cancelling the Parent's of Adults Support Group for Wednesday evening. The group will meet on Monday February 12th at 7 PM instead.  This is what it is to live in New England. Adjust and adapt, but hey, we live with autism so we take it all in stride and always have a plan B,  right?

While the Football season is over we now turn our attention to HOCKEY! Most of us can not afford tickets to go see the Bruins, but we've a local team we can afford and last week I shared about the special Autism Resource Central Day at the Worcester Railers in March. Unbeknownst to me the railers link to the tickets for the event had an error, with resource being spelled recource.   My eyes read it as resource of course and that is what I typed for the link, which of course didn't work! Wanja caught the error ( younger eyes) and the link has been corrected and if all  the technology gods smile upon me the link below SHOULD work. If you tried the previous links let me say I'm sorry for the confusion !

It's only 41 days until spring. The equipment truck for the Sox left town this week for Ft. Myers! Hold on to that thought to get through the next few weeks. It's a little too nasty to be outside training but there is plenty of time come spring to train for the 5k Run & Walk which is 80 days away!  NOW is the time to register and start fundraising for the big day.  I've raised $760 so far and it's been a few days since I've begged on Facebook so I'll have to go do that today!

Have a great week everyone and THINK SPRING!

Public Input Process for Home- and Community-Based Services Waiver Renewal Applications

The Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) is working with the Department of Developmental Service (DDS) to renew three MassHealth Home and and Community-Based Services (HCBA) waivers for individuals with Intellectual Disabilities
(1) Intensive Supports Waiver (DDS-IS)
(2) Community Living Waiver (DDS-CL)
(3) Adult Supports Waiver (DDS-AS)
As part of the waiver renewal process, EOHHS plans continued growth of waiver capacity, as well as certain updates to the DDS Adult waivers. As summarized below, these changes include:
  • Adding waiver capacity
  • Removing unused or underused services from the waivers (Center-based Day Supports; physical, occupational, and speech therapy; and 24-hour Self Directed Home Sharing Support (DDS-IS only))
  • Increasing the limit on Individual Goods and Services to $3,000/year
  • Setting a limit of 90 days/year for Stabilization
  • Requiring federal criminal background checks for provider agency employees
  • Allowing state-operated providers to deliver certain waiver services, and
  • Technical corrections and clarifications
