2015 National AWQ Prizes Announced!
CIEE Donates Summer Study Abroad Scholarships

WACA is excited to announce that the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) will offer eight scholarships totaling $14,000 for their high school summer study abroad programs to students on the winning and second-place teams at 2015 National Academic WorldQuest National Competition.

AWQ 2015 Champion Team: $2500 Scholarship/student

Second-Place Team: $1000 Scholarship/student

All of the participants in Academic WorldQuest local and national competitions are encouraged to apply to CIEE's Summer 2015 study abroad programs for the opportunity to experience new cultures and to study hard to win the scholarship opportunity. CIEE's application deadline is April 15.

CIEE will waive the deadline for the members of the top two teams in the AWQ National Competition on April 25. The four first-place students and four second-place students will be allowed to use their scholarship prizes toward summer programs that will accommodate them. (If the students from these teams have already applied before the April 15 deadline, they would also be able to use their prize monies.)

What is the Global Navigator Scholarship and CIEE's High School Programs?

Recognizing our interconnected world and the importance of graduating biliterate, globally competent students, CIEE has established 30 language, service, and content area programs for high school students to study abroad in 16 different countries during their summer break.

The 3-4 week summer study abroad programs run in two sessions. Session one begins June 11 and Session 2 begins July 9.

These transformative, academically rigorous, and enjoyable programs (please see attached) are connected to goals for building biliteracy and for graduating global citizens. The programs grow students' proficiency in world languages, build intercultural competence, and engage students in service and leadership opportunities on global issues.
