Dear Library Community,

On Tuesday, May 30th, the library hosted a small party for seven children who read 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.  In 2015, the family and friends of Connie Salemme, a former member of the Fairview Library Board of Trustees, library patron and avid reader, made donations to the library in her memory.  Around the same time, the  1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program emerged and libraries around the country offered resources to promote reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers and  to encourage parent and child bonding through reading.  Contributions in honor of Connie Salemme allowed for this program to grow at the Fairview Public Library.  If you would like your child to participate in the program, visit the library today!

The Education of Margot Sanchez
by Lillian Rivera

Margot "Princesa" Sanchez, is your typical Nuyorican princess living in the Bronx and attending Somerset Prep, a rich private school. Self conscious about her looks, Margot ditches her oldest best friend in the world, straightens her hair and steals her father's credit card - all to impress her private school friends.
When caught, Margot is forced to spend the summer stocking shelves and working the deli counter at her father's Supermarket to pay back her debt - while getting daily updates from her prep school friends all the while enduring criticism from the store's casheristas. Worst of all, Margot has to take orders from her Neanderthal brother, Junior who was just named the store manager.
This is a funny, romantic, coming-of-age story about a Puerto Rican girl who struggles with her identity, dysfunctional family and finds the courage to see her family for who they are...
