MWYF Scholarships:
$53,000 Awarded this Year Thanks to the generosity of so many individuals, businesses, family foundations and other supporters, we were able to award $53,000 in scholarships to several of our middle and high school students! Our six graduating seniors- Adrienne, Antonia, Fred, Jervonnie, Maliyah and Marquis- received new laptops through the Agassi Advantage Award. All six were also awarded the Zoe Gaudet Scholarship to further their education. Adrienne, Antonia, Jervonnie and Maliyah also received the Charlie Rice "Fired Up" Scholarship, which is awarded to seniors who are "fired up" about attending college. Adrienne was also awarded the iMethods Meaningful Work Scholarship, which includes a tailor-made suit in addition to a monetary scholarship. High school freshman Dquante was awarded the Rick Murray Don't Quit Award. This scholarship goes to a student who never gives up, despite hardships they might face. The four young ladies pictured above, (Tiah, Mya, Nykia and Kylia) are the first recipients of the Carol Hadley Service Scholarship. They were recognized for their efforts as members of the MWYF Compassion Club. The club raises money to sponsor a child in Kenya through Compassion International. The Sherry Murray Extra Mile Scholarships are awarded to students who always put forth their very best effort in the classroom, on the tennis court and throughout the community. This year's recipients were Nykia, Jakarri, Serdic, Alfredo, Terry, Tiah, Marquis, Antonia, Adrienne, Taylor, Dquante, Keyondra, Jervonnie, Bernard and Sylver. Scholarship winners will be recognized at the annual Current/ Sherman Group of Merrill Lynch Champions for Children Gala on Thursday, October 15th! |
