In the Soup
guest article by George Flint
"Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted...And Esau said to Jacob, 'Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!' ... Jacob said, 'Sell me your birthright now.' Esau said, 'I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me.'... Thus Esau despised his birthright." Gen. 25:29-34 (ESV).
If you substitute "U.S. citizens" for "Esau" and substitute the "Democrat Party" for "Jacob," you have the ancient history recorded in the Bible being again repeated before our very eyes.
When we were born in the United States, we received a precious birthright left to us by our founding fathers. That birthright is grounded first in the concept of our standing as worthy individuals, people to be respected instead of suppressed, to be freed instead of enslaved, to be treated as noble instead of ignoble.
That birthright is grounded second in the Declaration of Independence, which sets forth standards by which to measure governments. That birthright is grounded third in the Constitution, a document which reflected the best understanding of man as sinful and yet as worthy, of government as necessary and yet as all-consuming if not limited, and of the nature of power which will feed itself if not balanced against itself.
That birthright is grounded fourth in the work ethic of a people who understood their role as stewards of all that has been given them by the Creator (and not the government). That birthright is grounded fifth in the sacrifice of blood spread by patriots on battlefields throughout the world.
We are throwing that birthright away for a bowl of soup. We are satisfying the hunger of the present for "free" stuff such healthcare, telephones, education, and food. The Democrats, with much aid unfortunately from us, have made the soup and are inviting us to eat it now, all the time whispering "But you must give up your birthright." And the people are eating and abandoning their birthright. They are despising their birthright for temporary pleasure.
We conservatives see the handwriting on the wall and yell out "Danger, danger!" but we are ignored by the people we are trying most to help.We offer steak and potatoes which provide real opportunity, real growth, and real wealth for all, but the people prefer the weak taste of soup which they have done nothing to make to the strong taste of steak which must be earned.
So, what are we to do? Give up? Well, if we do, we are despising our birthright, too.
If this country is going to have a chance at the next 200 years as a bastion of liberty, freedom, and opportunity, we cannot give up.We can never give up.
We conservatives are America's hope for the future. The Democrats are the tired ideas of the past.We have the good ideas, the right ideas and the ideas that work. Our ideas make this nation and its people great; Democrat ideas diminish our country and diminish us.
The Democrats are attempting to come into Collin County and weaken us.To win the fight at the state and national levels, we must win in our own backyard.
We must win this fight, not for ourselves only, but for our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Let's send a message to the Democrats in Collin County in November that says that we don't like their soup and we won't eat it!
