Slow Food Philadelphia

Slow Food is a non-profit member supported International movement, founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Last weekend marked the unofficial end of summer but with the cooler weather the harvest season is in full swing. This was a tough growing season this year and we hope that you are supporting local growers.

We have been busy working on several projects. Our Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College seminar series kicks off in September with a spirit tasting. In an effort to spread the word and as an extension of the "Collaboration Makes Us Stronger" luncheons that we have hosted, we have been inspired to collaborate on an informational luncheon event.

When: Sunday, October 7th, 11am to 3:30pm (doors open at 10:30 for registration and seating)
Where: World Café Live (downstairs), 3025 Walnut Street
What: Panel Discussion and luncheon
Cost: $25

Inspired by Food Day.org and in collaboration with the Philadelphia Chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier we are hosting an event that will highlight the many great food related organizations in our region and be fed by some of our most beloved Philadelphia women chefs in our region.

We will kick off this day with an address by our Keynote Speaker food journalist Rick Nichols. Following his presentation we will follow this with a one hour educational panel presentation and discussion on stage consisting of representatives from several prominent groups including PASA, The Food Trust, UNI, and Grid Magazine. Our chef collaborators will prepare a buffet luncheon served between 1:30 and 3:30. During this time we have invited organizations to set up tables in the lobby so you can have an opportunity to meet with them and learn more about the amazing work that is being done in our region. We hope that you will come out and show your support to the people who dedicate themselves to the local food access movement.
