Happy New School Year! Our e-newsletter got a makeover this summer! What didn't change is that it will still be filled with sTUPEndous stories, upcoming events, interesting articles, and more.
Kalyn, Rita, & Nya, CourAGE members, prepare to speak at a Board of Supervisors meeting.

This summer's  sTUPEndous Story is about four of our incredible CourAGE Youth Health Coalition members. Nya, Kayla, Rita, and Kalyn, along with dozens of other anti-tobacco advocates, urged the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors to protect young people from tobacco influences. In July 2017 the Board voted unanimously to prohibit the sale of flavored tobacco products, including menthol cigarettes, within 1000 feet of schools, parks, playgrounds and libraries! Kalyn shared, "I didn't know, before CourAGE, that my voice as a young person in the community mattered."

CourAGE membership includes young people from throughout the county and is made possible through a partnership between the Contra Costa County Office of Education's Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) program and the Contra Costa Friday Night Live Partnership (Center for Human Development).
As we begin another school year, a reminder that we are here to support you as you support the health and wellness needs of your students. Please contact us any time!

September TUPE Theme: Stop Calling it Vapor!
E-cigarettes emit aerosol, not vapor.

E-cigarettes, also referred to as vapes, vape pens, e-hookahs, and mods, heat e-liquid that generally contains nicotine, flavorings, additives, and propylene glycol. The e-liquid becomes an aerosol, not just water vapor!

Find additional information, activity ideas, resources, and videos for ALL of our TUPE monthly themes on our TUPE webpage
