Chasing Clouds
New Works by Oil Painter
Lisa Willits

These new paintings continue Willits' exploration of coastal atmosphere, focusing on the towering cumulus clouds common during the summer months. Says Willits, "I am constantly chasing clouds and have many stunning reference photos of these humbling forces of nature. I see them as an incredibly dynamic painting subject providing an endless array of edges along with subtle shifts in color and value. I love the interplay of these elements and the challenge of portraying clouds realistically through a variety of techniques."

"For my current series, I pushed the drama by painting much larger than I have in the past and by maximizing the contrast in the compositions. I hope these paintings evoke a sense of wonder and awe."

Willits began painting full time and exhibiting her art in 2005, after working as a technician in a medical research lab. Her landscapes reflect the beauty and atmosphere of the South Carolina coast. She is an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artist Guild and is an associate member of Oil Painters of America.

Please stop by on August 3rd to meet Lisa and enjoy light hors d'oeuvres!
