City Releases its First Comprehensive Annual Financial Report

The City of Gahanna has released its first Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). By state law, the City of Gahanna is required to issue audited annual financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. In the past, the City has presented basic financial statements, which is the minimum reporting required to be in compliance with state law.  For 2013 the City made the decision to go beyond the minimum reporting requirements to expand its transparency and full disclosure in financial reporting. This action required the addition of an introductory section, combining financial statements, budgetary schedules and a statistical section.

The 2013 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report was submitted to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for consideration of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. To receive the certification the City's report will be reviewed by selected members of the GFOA's professional staff and a special review committee to determine if the report meets the association's standards for excellence in financial reporting.

The CAFR is now available online. Click here to view a copy of the full report.

Leaders Hope to Make Zulily More Permanent

Original story by Marla K. Kuhlman, ThisWeek Community News

Zulily, one of the fastest-growing e-commerce companies, is hiring for jobs that are expected to be temporarily located at 775 Taylor Road in Gahanna.

The online retailer is planning to add about 900 jobs in central Ohio over three years as part of a new tax-credit deal from the state, according to the Ohio Development Services Agency.

As part of a tax agreement, the company would receive a 75-percent, 12-year tax credit in exchange for operating in Ohio for at least 15 years.

Zulily spokeswoman Laura Jones said the 900 positions committed in the agreement are for the call center. The move is expected to generate $28 million by 2017. Zulily has fulfillment centers in Obetz and Reno.

"It's one of the fastest-growing e-commerce companies ever," Jones said.

The company was founded in 2009 and launched in 2010 by Darrell Cavens and Mark Vadon to provide mothers with a different way to shop. It's headquartered in Seattle, with offices in Columbus and the United Kingdom.

Jones told ThisWeek Gahanna would be the temporary location for the call center while a permanent location is determined.

"Our commitment is to bring 900 new jobs via the call center to the area over three years," she said.

Anthony Jones, Gahanna's planning and development director, said the city is in the process of finalizing permits for Zulily to move into the Taylor Road location.

"The city of Gahanna is happy to welcome Zulily to our community," he said. "Although this is a temporary location, we are hopeful that we can make Gahanna a viable long-term option for Zulily. To that end, we will do whatever we can to ensure that Gahanna has the most competitive offer on the table to keep Zulily apart of our community."
