"Congregational Vote"

Dear Members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,

On behalf of your Board of Administration, I am pleased to announce that we have reached agreement for the sale of a portion of our property to Ecumen for the purpose of constructing senior housing.  Further, the board has approved bringing this purchase agreement before the Congregation for approval.  As your congregational president, I am excited for the possibilities of the partnership with Ecumen.  For this reason, I am asking you to attend the upcoming special congregational meeting on May 7, 2017 at 11:45 am and vote to approve the sale.

Like most of you, I didn't know about this proposal until just before our congregational meeting in January 2017 due to the confidentiality agreement with our radio station neighbors.  Still, the knowledgeable task force with both board and general membership representation has impressed me with their diligent work completed to date on behalf of the congregation. Joel Frost, Orv Johnson, and Pastor Dale have spent countless hours negotiating the partnership with Ecumen.  The task force has pulled in OSLC members with expertise in real estate, finance, city planning, business, and history of OSLC as they have been needed.  They have also consulted the Property and Grounds Committee, and have considered the long-range growth plans for the OSLC property as they have negotiated the purchase agreement.  An attorney has been actively engaged in writing the final contract. The Ecumen Task Force has left no stone unturned.

As a result of this tireless, due diligence work, the board believes that we have negotiated a contract that secures the short and long-term interests of our congregation while gaining a great neighbor and partner.  Through this whole process (that at times was give and take), the task force and board worked hard to keep the best interests of the congregation at the front of our minds. But now it's time for you to have your say on May 7th

Between now and May 7, the Ecumen Task Force will schedule multiple opportunities for members to learn details about the purchase agreement and partnership and ask questions.  It is also important to note that a vote to approve the sale does not guarantee the actual sale of the OSLC land. There are still a few more approvals from the city that might meet some community opposition along the way. There is a good likelihood that the project will be approved by the city council, but it's not a slam dunk.

In the end, we must ask what God would have us do. Personally, I feel excited for the opportunity to grow our community of faith and to help prepare a comfortable home for our community's seniors. It's the Gospel at work. I ask that you pray for discernment as you weigh your decision on May 7th.

In your service,

Ray Valley
Church Board President

Ministry Opportunities!

What do I have to offer that God needs at Our Savior's?

Glad you asked! We are currently signing up Sunday greeters and ushers for the months of May and June. We need 24 people each month. There's plenty of room to join us!

Members and friends with last names beginning I - L are especially called upon for help during these 2 months, though anyone can sign up who enjoys serving in these capacities. We are trying very hard to involve as many people as we can to deepen Our Savior's hospitality ministry.

To view slots that are still open and to choose one, go to Sign-Up Genius. If you would prefer to contact me with the dates you are interested in, please email Kathy Frost.  If you are signing up for the first time as a greeter or an usher, on-the-job training can be provided. Thank you for helping us to share hospitality with all who enter our doors!
New Session Inspirational Yoga

On April 22 we will begin a new 8 week session of Inspirational Yoga

or the Youth Room (which ever is available) when necessary. Cost is $72.00, payable to Lyne Seppala at our first practice. All ages, guys, gals, no experience needed, come and bring a friend and a yoga mat. For questions or to sign up for the new session contact Heidi Puckett.
