"Created by God! Built for a Purpose! "

Dear Members & Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
What an exciting place Our Savior's is this week. Yesterday we welcomed 200 children to Vacation Bible School where they are learning about what it means to be created by God and built for a purpose. This is a good lesson and reminder for all of us, isn't it? Each of us are a unique creation of God's and called to a specific purpose within the Body of Christ. As our children learn in very fun, exciting, and interactive ways this week, I pray that you also will be reminded of the unique creation that you are. As we are gathered together for service and worship and learning, we create a beautiful tapestry and image of God. Thank you for who you are and how you complete the Body of Christ in this place.
I encourage you to stop in to the church one day this week to see the decorations and to witness the joy and enthusiasm that our children and youth are so full of! But watch out! It's contagious :)
I look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday as we explore Jesus' feeding of the 5000. This is familiar story, yet so significant to our daily lives of faith and discipleship. Which is likely why, apart from the resurrection of Jesus, it is the only other miracle that is recorded in all four of the gospels. We will be exploring Matthew's version of the miracle this Sunday, found in Matt. 14:13-21.
There is much going on around here. I encourage you to read all of your eBlast to find out more!
Come and see!

Erratum Ecumen Update -- Another hurdle cleared, perhaps the tallest remains.

Dear Friends:
I apologize I had some facts wrong regarding the Ecumen approval process. You'll have to forgive me; this is my first Planned Unit Development :-). Here's the REAL scoop.  We'll keep you posted as things develop.  The most noteworthy change is that the City Council meeting on August 2 got moved to 5:30 pm for those who would like to attend. We're unsure whether there will be an opportunity for public comments.  If all goes well, final approvals might not occur until November.

    b. Park Commission considers this application.

    c. City Council holds hearing.

  4. Building permit
    a. The building permit application
  5. Development Agreement
    a. City Council considers agreement.
  6. Preconstruction meeting
    a. As soon as development agreement is approved by City Council, the Ecumen engineers and development team could meet with the City Engineer.
  7. Site work
    a. Site work can begin after preconstruction meeting and payment of fees described in the Development Agreement.
    b. Work on the building itself has to wait until the building permit is issued.

Relay for Life!

Look for the table on Sunday, August 6th in the Gathering Area to purchase illuminaries and raffle tickets supporting Relay For Life. The mission for Relay For Life is to raise funds to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve the quality of life for cancer patients and their caretakers. Please make a purchase to support this worthy cause. Thank You!
Bible Study in the Park
Tuesday, August 8, is the next Bible Study in the Park. It will once again be held at Valley View Park at 9:30 am. Our Youth Director, Chad Larson, will lead this study which was written by Kelly Fryer. A description from the author - "Upending the tables - What is our responsibility when the very systems that have been put in place to protect people and make sure justice is done become tools to oppress? Do we just stand by and allow injustice to continue?" There will be a continental breakfast as well so bring a friend and join in for a good study and good fellowship.
Grocery Shopping for Seniors
Amy Sievers is volunteering to take seniors grocery shopping. She will
pick you up, shop with you and get you home and groceries unpacked. There is no fee for this service and all payment transactions at the store
will be handled by the senior. Amy is a bargain hunter and excited to provide this service to the OSLC senior community. Please contact Parish Nurse, Jean Pottratz or call 651-439-5704 ext. 24. The information will be passed on to Amy and she will contact the senior. Thank you Amy.
