"Done Deal!"
Dear Members & Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
After over 3 years of discussions, meetings, reviews of legal documents, approvals, delays, we finally hit a major milestone with our partnership with Ecumen. On June 28, 2018, I signed the closing documents approving the sale of a portion of Our Savior's property to Ecumen to build independent senior living cooperative housing (Zvago Stillwater). On the same day, Ecumen closed with the Smith's who own the radio station next door to acquire their property. Before the ink was even to the paper, Ecumen held a pre-sales meeting on the morning of June 28 at Our Savior's and several of our members put down their deposit to secure their spot at Zvago!
Although we expected a check for $300,000 to be in hand on June 28, we were surprised to learn the revised plat needs to go through two additional administrative approvals and signed off by the City of Stillwater and Washington County. These are formalities and we expect no difficulties getting these approvals. Still, this delays the actual date the sale can officially close and money be delivered to Our Savior's by up to 90 days. Everything is currently in escrow awaiting approval. A little anticlimactic, but I think it's safe to call this a Done Deal!
There were many members who helped the project along the way notably Keith Anderson, Mark Lambert, Steve Russell, Paul Johnson, Doug Smith, Shelly Hill, Gloria Guinee, Pastor Dale Stiles. Orv Johnson and Joel Frost deserve special thanks for their attention to detail and efforts to engage the congregation along the way. What an amazing display of teamwork coming together to achieve a goal. This effort has timely lessons for us during transition!
This is also the time where we can start having discussions on what to do with the $300,000. Soon after the sale officially closes, the board will present the congregation a proposal and you will be given an opportunity to weigh in. Although we feel blessed to have the issue of how to spend surplus money, in the grand scheme of things, $300,000 is not a lot. It will not address our operational budget that has been declining for the past few years. We are behind again this year. We still need members and friends to give generously so we can realize the hopes and dreams we all have for our church, its critical ministries, and the community we serve through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The future is looking bright and there's a lot to be excited about!
In Christ,
Ray Valley

Transition Team Update

Transition Team Listening Sessions
Get ready to take the next important steps toward preparing our congregation to call our next pastor! The Transition Team will be hosting a series of Transition Listening Sessions, which will be held at the church and in people's homes over the next several weeks. The goal of these listening sessions is to hear perspectives from as many people as possible across the congregation. The Transition Team will consolidate responses and incorporate member perspectives into the work on OSLC mission, vision and value statements later this summer.
Up to 8 people can sign-up for each listening session. This is a great opportunity for you to shape the future of OSLC and help identify the direction of the church and our next pastor leader!
Please take time to sign up for a Transition Listening Session on
the sign-up sheets located in the Gathering Area or send an email to the church office with your desired preference for one of the sessions listed below:
