Women's Economic Empowerment Across the Anglican World

The preacher at the 11:00 a.m. Choral Eucharist will be the Rev. Terrie Robinson, Director for Women in Church and Society for the Anglican Communion. Attending will be friends and dignitaries from the wider Anglican Communion.

Godly Play Commuter Core Trainings

Start a Godly Play Program at your church. Godly Play helps children explore their faith through story, to gain religious language and to enhance their spiritual experience though wonder and play. Based on Montessori principles and developed using a spiral curriculum, Godly Play serves children through early, middle and late childhood and beyond. The three modules are below. Whether you wish to start a garden or just increase fresh produce donations, father and son David and Devin Juros, members of St. John's Church in Pleasantville, will give you tools and advice to bring back a garden that has fallen into disrepair, start a new garden in a small space, rescue fresh produce from local vendors, and increase volunteer involvement, including youth. A two-part program on two consecutive evenings

This training teaches participants to recognize the signs of sexual abuse and the behavior of sexual perpetrators, how to respond to those signs and behaviors when they are observed, and provides screening information to help stop abuse before it happens.

Clergy Pension Changes Informational Meetings

Significant revisions to the Clergy Pension Plan are planned to take effect on January 1, 2018.  Join a Church Pension Group representative to learn about the planned changes and how they will affect you.

While these changes are intended to maintain the overall value of benefits and will offer greater flexibility, consistency, and simplicity, all clergy in the diocese are urged to attend one of these informational meetings to ensure that they fully understand how these changes will affect them personally.

Congregations at a Crossroads: Working Together in the Resurrection of Hope in Our Congregations

A day for congregations that are at a crossroads and have complicated or difficult decisions to make and could use a fresh take and some fresh air. Fierce Conversations training teaches people how to have vital conversations that interrogate reality, provoke learning, resolve tough challenges and enrich relationships. Participants will come away not only energized but also with skills to engage in conversations that encourage collaboration and move beyond "business as usual" to address issues honestly and openly. Training will include active opportunities to practice the skills presented.

Note: Churches planning to participate in this workshop will benefit by having completed the Fierce Conversations training on March 25.

St. James' Church Grants
Applications due Friday, March 24

Grants are available for local non-profit organizations, specifically direct-service programs that meet human needs in New York City, with particular interest in programs providing food and shelter and services to strengthen families, rehabilitate prisoners and enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged youth. The grant range is $3,000-7,000, and priority will be given to small, community-based organizations with budgets under $300,000. Parishes are asked to share this information with eligible organizations in the area (especially those that partner with churches or work within the boundaries of the Diocese). 4th Annual Young Adult of the Year Awards
Applications/nominations due Friday, April 14

The Church Club of New York is currently accepting applications and nominations for the Young Adult of the Year Service Recognition Award,  a tri-state regional program that provides recognition to an outstanding young adult (in his or her 20s or 30s), or group of young adults, for exceptional volunteer missionary service work within the individual's or group's church or other community ministry acknowledged in the Episcopal Dioceses of New York, New Jersey, Newark, Long Island, or Connecticut. The Award is accompanied by a $1,000 honorarium, of which $500 is designated to the awardee and $500 to the church or community ministry, presented at the Church Club's Annual Meeting in June 2017. First Steps and Next Steps Grants
Applications due Monday, May 15

First Steps Grants are expressly intended to provide funds to create stronger, healthier parishes. Funds awarded are to support activities that will serve as a catalyst for spiritual and numerical growth throughout the diocese.

A Next Steps Grant is given to support a congregation making the transition from pastoral to program size by providing temporary, partial funding for an assistant clergyperson.

Bedell Fund Grant
Open to churches in Region II (Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties)
St. Matthew's Church, Bedford is accepting applications from Region II churches for a grant for capital projects from the Bedell Fund.  The applicant must demonstrate stability and vitality and the commitment of the congregation to the project.  For more information and to apply, click here.
Church Club of New York Welcomes Episcopal Clergy to Join
The Church Club of New York has made changes to its Constitution and Bylaws, allowing Episcopal clergy to join for the first time in its 130 year history.  The Church Club provides inter-church fellowship and educational programs, and supports theological education and service ministries conducted by young adults. In addition to inviting clergy to become members, the Church Club has revised its dues structure to make it easier for everyone to connect and engage. Diocesan Fund for Clergy Critical Needs
Applications due Thursday, June 1
(for consideration at the June 8 meeting of the Committee)

The Diocesan Fund for Clergy Critical Needs Committee allocates grants to canonically resident priests, deacons or congregations of the Diocese of New York, as follows: 

  

1. Medical/dental and other needs:  To assist priests or deacons who have expenses related to severe illnesses or other household crises, lapsed medical insurance premiums, financial emergencies caused by unemployment and unusual medical or dental expenses.  See the application form here .

  

2. Educational grants: a.) to the children of priests or deacons with special needs or liv ing in critical mission areas where public schooling is clearly inadequate; and b.) to aid undergraduate college tuition for children of priests or deacons. Undergraduate education grants, which are only processed during the June meeting each year, have in recent years been in the amount of $2,000 for each student.  See the application form here .

Diocesan Investment Trust (DIT) Annual Shareholders' Informational Meeting

Shareholders, beneficiaries, and prospective DIT investors are cordially invited to send one or more representatives to this meeting, at which reports will be received from the President and from the Investment Managers of our DIT Funds. In addition, representatives of legal counsel and of the independent public accountants for the Funds will be present. Episcopal Charities ~ New Grant Opportunities
Program Investment grants will support capacity building projects and new outreach ministries affiliated with parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of New York. Grants will range in size from $10,000 to $30,000 annually over a period of one to three years. For more information, click here .
