Faith Formation Newsletter

September 25, 2017

Dear Catechetical Colleagues,

Many of you are probably assisting new catechists this school year. Catechist's Journey has a great article you might want to share with both your new and more experienced catechists.

Share the Journey is being launched on September 27th. Pope Francis has started a global campaign to support migrants and refugees around the world. During our annual Respect Life Month in October, the bishops in the U.S. are asking Catholics around the country to participate in a week of prayer and action for
migrants and refugees from October 7-13. Find a helpful and informative
set of resources you can use in your parish or school.

Please consider using this video message from Archbishop Sartain, inviting all youth to attend the Catholic Youth Conference(CYC)!

As we continue with Task One of Catechesis: Knowledge of the Faith, our featured "Essential Concept" this week is Sacred Scripture. Please check out the online videos in particular this one from Br. Casey Cole, OFM.  and if you some recommended for us, we appreciate you helping us build our list of Catholic digital links related to faith formation!

For all of you seeking resources and ideas related to marriage preparation and enrichment, please consider this new webinar series from Dr. Sarah Bartel! To register, email Sarah your name and parish, and put "WEBINAR SERIES" in the subject line.

Finally, please do review the upcoming events section of this newsletter. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at these wonderful presentations and workshops!

Essential Religious Education Concepts
videos
Sacred Scripture- [101-141]

The Essential Concepts come from the Table of Contents for the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). They have been re-organized to fit under the Six Tasks of Catechesis. CCC articles numbers associated with each Essential Concept are listed throughout this document. Referencing CCC article numbers is a recommended resource for catechist preparation.

TASK 1 - KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAITH - Students explore, profess, and reflect on our Catholic faith, which is the content of God's revelation found in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition and lived out in the Creed and Church doctrine.

Implementation Ideas for the Classroom:

*Please note the Library's Essential Concepts list is a working document, being updated on an ongoing basis.

Online Resources-Links and Videos

It is not unusual for catechists and publishers of textbooks to adapt Scripture stories for children. Let's face it: the Bible was not written for seven-year-olds! When adapting Scripture stories for children, however, it is imperative that we remain faithful to Sacred Scripture and not change the essence of the stories we are relating.
