A message from our Council President
Dear Scouting Family,
This month many of you will receive a Voice of the Scout email from the BSA National Office. I hope you and/or your Scouting youth will take a few minutes to reply to the online questions; your feedback is important at the local and national levels for continued program enhancement.
Separately, our Fall Cub Round-Up is ongoing. While Cub recruiting was up significantly in 2013 versus 2012 in our Council, this 2014 season is off to a bit of a slow start - but I am optimistic we will end the year at or very near last year's levels. New membership and recruiting are the lifeblood of our Packs, Troops, and Council. Statistically, we know that if we don't reach a young man as a first- or second grader, the chances of him ever becoming a Scout drop dramatically. Furthermore, having a new Cub earn Bobcat rank within his first 30 days in the Den increases his retention substantially. The truth is, our youth can't benefit from Scouting if they aren't in Scouting.
As one of the largest volunteer organizations in America, the BSA and our council depend quite heavily on adults that fit Scouting into their busy lives - often on weekends or after work when time is already a limited and valuable commodity. At every level of Scouting, it is the volunteers who provide the guidance, direction, and planning for program, training, and other events. If you are currently a registered leader, thank you for your service and I hope you continue to benefit from the many training opportunities offered online and in-person. If you are not currently a leader, I hope you will consider taking a formal role in your Pack or Troop. If you see a gap that needs to be filled or something that can be
improved, please offer to assist.
In Scouting,
Reed Miller
Council President

Robert E. Knox usage
Dear Scouting Volunteer and Parent,
Fall is a wonderful time for camping and we hope that you and your unit will enjoy the great outdoors. The weather for Spook o ree promises to be magnificent.
If your outdoor plans include Robert E. Knox Scout Reservation we would ask that you use caution at camp. As we have said, a timber operation on the property is finishing up but their debris and clean up remains. We ask that you help us ensure everyone's safety by staying away from the timbered areas. There are a number of trip hazards and sharp objects remaining on the ground in the areas that have been timbered.
We are taking precautions by roping off the timbered area and ask that no vehicles or people go into those areas until such time as the timber clean-up is complete. Running and driving through these areas poses a potential for injury or damage to vehicles and it is our goal to have no one or nothing damaged or injured.
Thank you for your cooperation and have a great Scouting season.

Georgia-Carolina Council Scouts!
Do you want to double the size of your unit?
As a leader, promote for each member to recruit a friend. That's right, if each member recruits one, your unit will double!
Invite a friend to Scouting!
When your friend joins the fun of the Pack/Troop,
you can earn the Recruiter Strip.
The Recruiter Strip is awarded to a Cub Scout or Boy Scout the first time he recruits a friend, relative, classmate, or other acquaintance to join his unit.
If each member takes on this challenge, to invite a friend to join Scouting, soon you will have doubled the size of your Pack or Troop.
