"Flying Scotsman Flying South" Clarification & Additional Information

Here is a clarification to the recent eNewsletter message about the availability of platform tickets during the "Flying Scotsman" visit (while preparations for this busy event continue, it is advised that readers bookmark the following webpage to get the very latest updates: bluebell-railway.com/event/flying-scotsman).
  • Platform tickets, in fact, will not be sold at East Grinstead station. This decision has been made due to the size of that platform and the expected number of visitors with tickets for trains.
  • During the gala, platform tickets may be sold at other stations (Sheffield Park, Horsted Keynes, and Kingscote). However, please note that these tickets will only be released subject to crowds and availability. Decisions about platform ticket sales will be made daily, even hourly, during the visit of "Scotsman".
  • Therefore, the best way to guarantee that you will get to see "Scotsman" is to purchase a ticket to ride with one of the Bluebell Railway's service trains, which will be hauled by our own locos running in conjunction with "Scotsman"-hauled trains. There are still tickets available for these service trains: to purchase, visit ticketsource.co.uk/bluebell-railway.
Further news updates:

A very limited amount of individual tickets to travel behind "Flying Scotsman" are available on certain days during the gala. These tickets are for travel in the GN Directors' Saloon and include one round trip, prosecco and canapes, with additional food options available. More information here. Phone 01825 720800 to book.

At the Bluebell Railway Shop at Sheffield Park Station there will be some book signings and a DVD signing during the "Flying Scotsman" event:
  • On Good Friday (14 April, 2017) Richard Long will be returning to sign copies of his Lewes & East Grinstead Railway book.
  • On 17 April, the Railway will host James Baldwin, who will sign copies of his books about "Flying Scotsman" and his book about the Great Northern Atlantics, and also Roger Hardingham from Kingfisher Productions will sign copies of his "Flying Scotsman" DVD.
  • On 19 April, 2017, Douglas d'Enno is returning to sign copies of Sussex Railway Stations Through Time.
So, even more reasons to visit the Bluebell Railway and the shop over the Easter period!

All other gala information--including how to get to the Railway (by car, rail, or bus); where to park; accessibility; food and drink options; and what additional attractions to expect (such as catering outlets, a Harvey's beer tent, and 10ΒΌ inch steam railway ride)--can be found at the event webpage.
