Smiling Faces on the First Day

GGUSD administrators, teachers, and staff showed students how excited they were to see them on the first day of the 2017-18 school year. Student scholars were all smiles and ready to learn. We are collecting awesome and adorable #GGUSDFirstDay photos from our parents and will announce the winner of our photo contest on September 13. Stay tuned.
Monsoor Memorial Stadium Dedication

On Friday, September 8 at 6:00 p.m., GGUSD will hold a special dedication ceremony at the district’s new Michael A. Monsoor Memorial Stadium at Garden Grove High School. The event will kick off football season, showcase the new state-of-the-art stadium to the community, and honor the life and memory of Petty Officer Second Class (SEAL) Michael A. Monsoor, a 1999 Garden Grove High School graduate and posthumous Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. The event will feature the Patriot Parchute Team skydiving onto the field; posting of the colors by Pacifica High School's NJROTC; the national anthem performed by Garden Grove High School's Vocal Ensemble; special remarks from Jason Booher, the founder and first commander of the Navy SEAL unit in Ramadi, Iraq, where Monsoor gave his life; a military flyover; and more.

*All GGUSD employees not working the event must pay an $8 entry fee which includes the cost of the football game of Grove vs. Woodbridge.
The Garden Grove Way Video

Watch three stories that demonstrate the success of Garden Grove Unified School District's strategic plan goals called "The Garden Grove Way." The stories of Bolsa Grande High School graduate Lisa Bang, Hare High School graduate Amber Yardley, and GGUSD teacher Pedro Espinoza reflect GGUSD's commitment to equipping all students with the academic and personal skills needed for lifelong success .
 
Gates Foundation Features Santiago High School
Santiago High School is receiving positive national attention in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Back-to-School campaign. The Foundation created a video spotlighting Santiago High School for using data to improve teaching and learning and to support student gains. Santiago High School is featured as a “student-ready” school prepared to help all students succeed.

New Don Wash Auditorium

GGUSD's Board of Education celebrated the reopening of the renovated Donald R. Wash Memorial Auditorium with a ribbon cutting. Renovations include interior and exterior ADA accessible ramps, accessible restrooms, and accessible auditorium seating; air-conditioning; a new grand entrance with exterior lighting and landscaping; and new ticket booths in the lobby.
New GGUSD Family Resource Center

GGUSD opened a new Family Resource Center to connect families to important community resources. The Family Resource Center is located on the Mendenhall Campus, 13611 Clinton Street (Building O) in Garden Grove, adjacent to the Assessment and Registration Center. It will provide an array of resources in areas like health care, mental health counseling, immigration, legal advocacy, homeless education resources, and more. Contact 714-663-6411 for more info.
Sunnyside Student Council Committed to Kindness
Sunnyside Student Council advisers and sixth grade teachers, Mrs. Stupin and Mrs. Morgan, are rolling out a year-long focus on social awareness and kindness. Students will collect and donate school supplies to help students who were impacted by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, donate coats to families in need during the winter, and raise awareness and money for the American Heart Association and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Monthly spirit/dress-up days will be used to celebrate kindness, including Twin Day to celebrate friendship, Wear Red Day to take a stand against bullying, and Nationality Day to celebrate students' diverse cultures,

All of the Student Council activities planned will help to make our school, community, and world a better place.
