"Happy Birthday Church! "

Dear Members & Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,

This coming Sunday is the celebration of Pentecost - the birthday of The Church. One of the songs we will sing this Sunday is "Spirit of Gentleness". The chorus of the song is:

Spirit, Spirit of gentleness, blow through the wilderness, calling and free.
Spirit, Spirit of restlessness, stir me from placidness, wind, wind on the sea. (ELW 396)

On this day we will recall in the second chapter of Acts how "tongues of fire" came from the sky and touched God's people in the midst of "a mighty wind" that was the Holy Spirit. In John's gospel (chapter 20) we will be reminded of how Jesus "breathed" on his disciples the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit came into our world in both a violent and gentle way to challenge and to comfort, to equip and to prepare. The Church of Christ in this world continues to grow, to be challenged, to comfort, and to prepare as the Holy Spirit moves it. Many, in their own restlessness, have been asking about or acknowledging the changing state of The Church in recent years. It's true. The Church is changing. However, Pentecost offers hope in the midst of the changes. Pentecost offers perspective in the midst of the changes. Pentecost offers continuity in the midst of the changes. The Holy Spirit continues to "blow through the wilderness" every day of our lives - calling and free.

This Sunday, we give thanks for God's Holy Spirit and how It continues to call us to be The Church in our world. Please continue to pray for Our Savior's Lutheran, for the ELCA, and for Christ's Church in our world, that as the final verse of the song ends, "with bold new decisions, God's people will rise."

A reminder that also this Sunday we will begin our Summer Worship Schedule with Sunday worship at both 8:00 am and 9:30 am with coffee being served between services. If you and/or your spouse or family would like to sign up to serve coffee one Sunday this summer, please contact the church office or sign up on the sign-up sheet on the church kitchen door.

It will be a great Sunday!

Come and see!
