SAVE THE DATE
ICAN's Wine & Wags Fundraiser

October 9th

Reception: 5:30pm

Program: 6:00pm

The Willows on Westfield (formerly the Riverwalk Banquet Center Lodge)

One of our biggest fundraisers each year is Wine & Wags. This ''after work'' program provides individuals and businesses an opportunity to learn more about ICAN and the work we are doing with inmates and individuals living with a disability.

The evening is inspirational and filled with stories about ICAN dogs changing lives. Hosted by Terri Stacy, Radio Show Co-Host at Emmis, the program will include testimonials by an ICAN client and a former ICAN inmate handler. The program is free to attend and includes light hors d' oeuvres and wine.

If you are interested in putting a table of ten together or would like to attend Wine & Wags, please contact Dino at [email protected] or call 317.672.3864

ICAN Recently Graduated 14 Service Dogs
Recently, fourteen clients received a service dog from ICAN.  Four were placed as successor dogs to clients who's service dog had passed away. Each dog was placed with a client living with a disability including autism, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, seizures, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy and heart disease. ICAN extends a special thank you to Positive Perspective Assistance Dogs in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Two of the graduate dogs were provided to ICAN as a joint partnership. Approximately 300 guests attended the graduation ceremony in June at the Indiana Women's Prison.

Wags & Tails to all of ICAN's volunteers for their time and support with team training, helping prepare lunches, and their support at the graduation; and a special thanks to those who donated food and supplies for the team training lunches. For a listing of those individuals and businesses, please visit http://www.icandog.org/events

The graduation takes place twice a year at the prison and our next graduation will be Thursday evening, December 11th. If you are interested in attending, please contact Dino at [email protected].

As part of ICAN's training program, inmate handlers who complete 4,000 hours of dog training receive a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship with the U.S. Department of Labor in Service Dog Training.

GOLF OUTING A HUGE SUCCESS!
A Huge Success!
The perfect weather made it a great day as more than 100 golfers got together for ICAN's recent golf outing at Prairie View Golf Club. The golf scramble helped raise money to fund our services. The highlight of the day was showing off our eight, eight week old Golden Retriever puppies!!

Wags & Tails to Amelia Langlois and Beth Muchler for co-chairing the golf outing, to Clint Adams for speaking at the dinner, to Ginny Neff and Kim Reeves and all the volunteers working the event. For a listing of volunteers and supporters please visit http://www.icandog.org/events. Last, a special thanks to the following sponsors at this year's outing:

Event Sponsor:  Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance

Specialty Sponsors:  Sun King and Arni's

Hole Sponsors:  Browning, Dean's, DOZ Charitable Foundation, Inc, The Neighborhood Veterinarian, and Greenwalt CPA's.

This year, Matthew decided to surprise his girlfriend Alexi by sending

a Puppy Love Year Round delivery with a special message asking her to the prom!

Needless to say, the delivery by our ICAN dogs was a huge hit and Yes, she said, Yes!

INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE DOG (IAD) WEEK
ICAN recently celebrated IAD Week by providing information about assistance dogs, the laws pertaining to assistance dogs and their human partners, and the increasing problems of "fake service dogs". We extend a thank you to Lilly, Cummins and the Indiana Government Center for allowing us to have an information table at their site.

Wags & Tails to Moe Kiley, Dana Hardin, Nicole Bauer, Mary and Emma Davidson for working the tables; and to, Vickie McWatters, for her time in coordinating the details of the week.

THANK YOU FROM OUR DOGS & STAFF
ICAN received $1,000 from Ventas & the Ventas Charitable Foundation.  The money will go toward heartworm preventative for one of our new Golden Retrievers!  Wags & Tails to Ventas for their generous support and a special thanks to Lisa Monsey, for her assistance in submitting the application for the grant.
Greg, Fran and their team of Friends
Wags & Tails to Greg & Fran Christopher for hosting an ICAN fundraiser in Evansville!  Nationally known for his specialty BBQ ribs, Greg and his wife, Fran, came up with a fantastic idea - hold a special barbeque in southern Indiana to raise money for ICAN!  Their efforts turned out to be a huge success and they raised over $1,700!  We are extremely grateful to Greg, Fran and their team of friends for doing this for us and sharing the ICAN mission.  It's our hope we can bring those delicious yummy ribs to Indy in the near future!
Troop 133 and Parents
As part of an Eagle Scout project, ICAN sends Wags & Tails to the Scouts at Troop 133 for completing two big projects for us.  First, they built and installed new shelves in our storage room, moved materials from the old storage room to the new one and neatly organized our new space.  Secondly, they brought in the wheel barrows and put down dirt and seed for our dog run so we wouldn't have any more muddy dogs and pups after a hard rain.  What a wonderful day long project it was and we couldn't have asked anything more from such a fun group.  Special thanks to Spencer and Andrew Kutschera, for facilitating the project, the Boy Scouts, the parents who participated, and the following folks for their contributions: John Carter, Neil Wilson, Tom Slater, Tiffany Lawn & Garden Supply, Indianapolis Concrete and Timberland Lumber Company.

Wags & Tails to Southern Wine & Spirits of Indiana for inviting us back this year to their company picnic! They will be donating the proceeds from the picnic's dunk tank to ICAN. Special thanks to Lisa Hampton for her support!

Wags & Tails to The Milano Inn for hosting our ICAN Dine this month in which ICAN will receive 10% of the proceeds from that evening. Special thanks to Gina Lagrotte and her wonderful staff.

ITS PUPPY LOVE EVERYWHERE AT ICAN
Holly and her beautiful 11 puppies.
Three ICAN dogs recently had their first litter of pups!  In June, Alpine had a litter of 8 Golden Retriever puppies, in August, Holly delivered 11 Golden-Lab puppies and Jamie also delivered 8 Golden-Lab puppies.  One of Alpine's puppies will go to her breeder, and another to Pawsitive Teams in California, the remaining 6 will go to ICAN.  ICAN will be sharing Holly's litter with her whelping team at Assistance Dogs for Achieving Independence (ADAI) in Ohio.  One of Jamie's puppies will go to her breeder.  All in all, we are thrilled to welcome 18 new dogs to the ICAN family.

ICAN extends a special thank you to Dr. Jamie Young of Kasanacanines, ADAI and the following breeding furlough caretakers:  Alpine - Melissa McCoy and family, Holly - Ginny Neff and Sara Lyn Thompson, and Jamie - Dr. Jamie Young.  Come meet these gorgeous pups at Wine & Wags on October 9th!  Sponsor a puppy and you get to choose the name!
