Senior Corps  RSVP                                 "Your Local Volunteer Resource"
Elder Services of Cape Cod & the Islands                                    June 2017

Thank you for being a Senior Corps volunteer.

Together we are making a difference.

 Our Volunteers
   "Once a Teacher..."
For over ten years, the RSVP Senior Corps 3R's program has been blessed to have such a dedicated volunteer as Richard Eressy sharing his knowledge and joy of teaching with students at Harwich Elementary and Monomoy High Schools.
"Working with young people is pure joy.  It's been a pleasure sharing my life experiences and education with them," he recently told 3R's coordinator Ann Gallagher when reflecting on his Cape Cod teaching career.  "I not only want to share my love of reading, but as a storyteller, I get a real kick out of sharing my life experiences with others," he added.
Before coming to the Cape, Richard was a teacher in Virginia for nine years and is moving back there this summer.
"Richard's enthusiasm for learning and his love of teaching has made a profound
impact on our students in the Monomoy
School District," notes Ann.  "His genuine concern for the well-being of young people is exemplary and we're sure going to miss that."  When not volunteering with the 3R's Program, Richard volunteered with the Fresh Air Fund serving as the chairman of the Lower Cape Fresh Air Fund and hosting two children from New York City every summer for 13 years.
The saying "Once a teacher, always a teacher," is exemplified by Richard's eagerness to enlighten others.  "When I move back to Virginia I intend to volunteer in the schools there, as well.  It's my pleasure to work with youngsters whenever and wherever I can be of help." Richard has been Senior Corps RSVP Volunteer for 12 years, serving more than 700 hours in the local schools.  We will miss Richard and wish him well in his new endeavors.

   A Great Big Thank You

goes out to all the 3R's volunteers for an outstanding job done this school year!  Throughout the Cape, volunteers have worked with over 700 children in  21 schools.  This school year, we increased student membership in the Enrichment Book, Math & Creative Writing clubs where volunteers participated.  Many volunteers also assisted teachers in the classrooms with a variety of activities. Teachers and administrators continue to praise and complement the volunteers for all that they do in the schools.  Each of the volunteers has made a big difference in the lives of so many Cape Cod youth. Thank you for all that you do.

Ann Gallagher and 3R'svolunteers shop at Barnes & Noble, purchasing over 200 books for students summer reading.  Books were also purchased for individual classrooms' libraries.
