"Just Wondering Jesus . . .
How Do I Get Closer To You?"

Dear Members & Friends of Our Savior's Lutheran Church,
This week we explore the question from the roadside, "Just wondering, Jesus ... how do I get closer to you?" This is something we all wish for - to be closer to Jesus in our relationship with him and stronger in our faith as a result. How to do this is not easy. We can go to worship, read our bibles, serve in various ways, and pray every day, and still not feel as close as we'd like to Jesus. The author of our book answers the question of how to get close to Jesus saying, "by imagining God wanting to be close to you."
Our conversation around this question will be based on the parable of the Prodigal Son found in the 15th chapter of Luke. The son left his father, disrespected his father, and disobeyed his father, intentionally distancing himself from his father. The father, however, never lost his desire to be close to his son. He never stopped loving his son. He never gave up hope that his son would one day return home again. As soon as the father spotted his son's return on the horizon, he ran to him, embraced him, and welcomed him home with a party. This is how God feels about us when we distance ourselves from him. God's desire to be close to us has not changed, nor ever will. When we realize how badly God wants to be close to us, perhaps, we too, like the prodigal son, will return to him and his welcoming, loving embrace. More will be explored about this on Wednesday.
This Sunday we will explore yet another question - this time asked by some Greeks. They asked Philip, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus." Many, then, and now, desire to be introduced to Jesus and may be hesitant to experience Jesus directly. This is where you and I come in. We who have come to experience Jesus' love and grace are called to share him and introduce him to others. Most will not be as bold as these Greeks who came to Philip with a question of meeting the Lord. If we can anticipate this question of others and their desire to see Jesus, the better evangelists we will be. Join us this Sunday as we dive deeper into this question.
Continued Lenten Blessings to you,
Pastor Dale
