A Weekly Peek at Our Savior's....

God's good work continues in this place thanks to motivated members, friends, and staff.  Look what's happening in the
Property & Grounds Ministry at Our Savior's!

Our Property & Grounds committee enjoys one another's fellowship and also the projects that take care of our church home. As you drive by or walk into church, take a moment to gaze at our church grounds and appreciate God's beauty around us. That 'capturing the moment' fuels us to get excited about planting flowers, now that we are truly experiencing spring, as well as mowing the lawn, as soon as the temperatures rise so the grass can grow.
We have other outside projects coming up, including trimming trees and pruning shrubs; and painting and staining projects--which our youth consistently participate with (thank you)! We honor God by attending to the ongoing repairs and upkeep for our building, playground, and parking lot.
Let us know how you can help - stop in at a meeting -- 1 st Monday of the month at church in the family room. Questions? Contact Shari Ohland.

Does this ministry speak to your heart?
If so, join us for the next meeting on Monday, May 7 at 6 pm.

See you in church!

Sunday is Rachel's Day -- What is Rachel's Day?

In 1994, one woman urged her congregation, Bethel Lutheran Church on the west side of Chicago, to support children facing violence. They began by clearing a vacant lot and turning it into a garden, Rachel's Garden. It became a place where folks, mostly mothers, could come to mourn children killed by gun violence in the past year. They also planted a white cross and flowers in remembrance of these young ones. Two years later, the Metro Chicago Synodical Women's Organization brought a memorial to the Third Triennial Convention (1996) of Women of the ELCA to broaden awareness of the violence children face and actions to address it. The convention passed the memorial, resolving "That ELCA women encourage their congregations to recognize the first Sunday in May each year as Rachel's Day, based on Jeremiah 31:15-17 wherein Rachel grieved for her children, to mourn the loss of our children and to renounce the forces of evil and fear that plague our nation."  The white rose on the altar remembers the children.

Fisher's of Men (and Fish) Men's Ministry

Now that the ice is quickly receding from area lakes, fishing is on the minds of many of us! If you are a guy or high school youth who likes to fish, consider joining Our Savior's Fisher's of Men fishing group. It's casual and does not require much of a commitment. We fish a rotation of area lakes on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 pm with the first event on May 29 on the
St. Croix River. Contact Chad Larson or Ray Valley with your interest in being put on the list. No boat required, but let us know if you do have a boat that could fish 2-3. We manage participation weekly through Sign Up Genius and it's an "opt-in" each week program. All boats compete in a friendly fishing competition, but the fellowship among men is the top priority. We had great participation in our inaugural year last year and we look forward to more men joining in 2018.
