A Weekly Peek at Our Savior's....

God's good work continues in this place thanks to
motivated members, friends, and staff.

The Sun Shines Bright on OSLC - Solar Panel Project
Twenty-Five years ago, the ELCA made the following statement:
"We of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are deeply
concerned about the environment, locally and globally,
as members of this church and as members of society.
Even as we join the political, economic, and scientific discussion,
we know care for the earth to be a profoundly spiritual matter."
"The earth is a planet of beauty and abundance; the earth
system is wonderfully intricate and incredibly complex. But today
living creatures, and the air, soil, and water that support them,
face unprecedented threats."
In the spirit of caring for God's creation, OSLC is hoping to soon install solar panels on the roof of our facility. Taking such a step will be good for our environment and communicate to our community that at OSLC we act on our beliefs. At the same time, this action will be good for our financial bottom line.
How can OSLC afford to put solar panels on our building? Xcel Energy customers are able to take part in a rebate program for solar energy. Federal tax credits become available to non-profit organizations, such as churches, by a lease arrangement with a third party. Working with Ideal Energies, OSLC will have no up-front costs, will own the solar panels but lease the electrical rights to a third party that finances the project. That company will collect the Xcel and federal rebates while OSLC pays a reduced amount (approximately 20% less) for its electricity use. So the savings are immediate and at the end of the lease period, OSLC can buyout the agreement for a nominal fee and receive the full cost benefit of the electricity generated by our solar units.
