March 8, 2017

Lenten blessings of peace to all.

May this season of the church year offer us the courage to be a voice for the voiceless in our world; through prayer, advocacy and deeds of goodwill.
May we find ourselves agents for the betterment of the world;
for change that is positive, for love, for God.
May the Light of Christ guide us daily as we journey to the Cross.
May the Spirit of Wisdom help us be silent when silence is needed,
and give us words of blessing when they are needed.
God created each of us out of love, may that love intentionally and unintentionally flow out of all we do and say, each step along the way.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.

New at the Resource Center! These books just arrive this past week.

Augsburg Adult Bible Studies: "God Loves Us" (Psalms, Joel, Jonah, John, Romans, Ephesians, 1 Peter and 1 John). This is the 2017, March, April and May study, written by Rodney R. Hutton, Professor of Old Testament at Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. This study will focus on the love of God within the context of the biblical witness to the basic character of God in relationship with Israel and the early Christian community.

"Praying for the Whole World: A Handbook for Intercessors," by  Gail Ra mshaw.

In many churches, laypersons prepare the prayers of intercession. In this concise charming, down-to-earth handbook, Ramshaw proposes seven steps, from Monday through Sunday, to assist your crafting of the prayers of the faithful: 1-Think again, 2-Ponder the readings, 3-Begin your list of specifics, 4-Choose your format, 5-Write your first draft, 6-Edit your test, 7-Finish your preparation.

"Wel come One Another: A Handbook for Hospitality Ministers," by Paul E. Hoffman.
H offman's inviting prose, which includes many practical proposals, will expand your notions of who hospitality ministers are and why they matter. His own compelling experience suggests that the rewards of our efforts to welcome the stran ger will deeply enrich our congregational ministry and our relationships with one another and with God.
Hoffman begins his thoughts in the parking lot, into the sanctuary with greeters and ushers, sending the community forth, coffee hour and a review of the importance of welcome.
