MUSIC TIME ACDEMY AROUND THE WEB
Greetings!

Hello and Happy February/Mardi Gras/Valentine's Day/President's Day from all of us here at Music Time Academy!

This month was the start of our new Thursday night Rock Band Class, under the instruction of Tim Garry. They have been jamming out every week and are sounding great so far! Students Carlos (drums), Sam (keys), Rhea (bass), and Derrick (guitar) are working on classic rock tune, "Summer of  '69" by Bryan Adams.  We welcome new students at any time to join the band, so if you are interested just let us know by sending an email, calling, or stopping by the office anytime.

In addition to new and exciting programs at Music Time Academy, this month was also the start of Music Time Academy's involvement in several programs at local Livermore schools.  Teachers Anna Cucciardo and Tim Garry just launched an exploratory rock band after school class for 4th and 5th graders at Arroyo Seco Elementary. Anna has also been instructing (alongside director Tom Jones) the Winter Percussion Ensemble at Granada High School, which starts competitions in early March. Music Time Academy instructor Alex Attard also teaches Saxophone at Mt. Eden High School in Hayward. If you know of a local school that would benefit from some supplementary music education, please contact us to see how we might be able to help!

And now...some exciting news, including $1000, and our featured Student and Teacher of February 2013!
Valley Teen Idol 2013
The San Ramon Valley Rotary Club presents its 8th annual singing and instrumentalist competition. Grand prize is $1000, plus a recording session! This contest is open to 7th through 10th graders only. Any instrument (including vocalists), and any style of music is welcome! Students may perform as soloists or ensembles. Auditions take place in early March. For an application, please see: http://www.musictimeacademy.com/VTI2013.pdf

Student of the Month
CONGRATULATIONS TO NICHOLAS RUSS!
Nick is our first ever Student of the Month! He will receive (along with the priceless glory and endless bragging rights) a $30 Gift Certificate to Music Time Academy, as well as a $20 gift card to the Vine Theater in Livermore!

Instrument: Piano & Guitar
Teacher: Michael Solomon
Age: 11
School: Christensen Middle School
Grade: 6
Student at Music Time since: 2006 (piano), 2012 (guitar)
Hobbies (besides practicing): Boy Scouts, Reading, Legos

One of the longest standing students as Music Time Academy as a piano student since 2006, Nicholas continues to expand his interest in music as the years go by. He recently started guitar lessons here, and also joined the school band, playing the trumpet. He still loves the piano and is working on improving his music reading ability. Nick shows a lot of enthusiasm for each new instrument he learns. He is very nervous about performing live. although Nick has participated at several of our past recitals. Nick's sister, Zoe, is also a student at Music Time, studying violin and voice, and his father Patrick took lessons here on guitar as well. We are happy to have the Russ family at Music Time Academy!

Do you know a current Music Time Academy student with a newsworthy musical story or accomplishment from the past month that should be featured? If so, please fill out our online nomination form by following this link:

Teacher Feature
For February, we would like to highlight our very first TROMBONE instructor, Kevin Harper!  Kevin, as all of our instructors, is a talented musician and multi-instrumentalist, offering instruction to students on: Piano, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, & Baritone/Euphonium. Kevin earned his B.A. in Music Performance at Cal Sate East Bay, and is now pursuing a Masters of Music degree, in addition to teaching and working at Sheet Music Plus (a fantastic, local resource for music online). Kevin performs with the U.C. Berkeley Symphony and swing band, Lost Dog Found. He is available for lessons on Fridays currently, but will be adding more days soon. For more information about Kevin (and all of our fantastic instructors), please visit: http://www.musictimeacademy.com/mt-instructors.html.
Thank you for your continued support in music education!

Sincerely,

Anna Cucciardo & Monica Lind
