Invasive Species Network News

I SN summer crew leader, Dan Watt, now working for contractor Wildlife and Wetland Solutions, treats phragmites in Manistee Co.
The ISN team was on the road for much of October. We jumped across state lines to Wisconsin to attend the Upper Midwest Invasive Species Conference - the largest invasive species-focused conference in the United states! ISN presented as a leader in the field of CISMAs (Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas) and many ideas were exchanged among hundreds of professionals working with invasive species.

Fall treatments for phragmites were also completed within ISN's four-county service area. Below are some impressive statistics from this past month:
  • 130 acres treated in the Manistee State Game Area and the Manistee River Delta
  • 10 miles of Manistee Lake treated
(18 different stakeholders participated in this effort including private property owners, MDNR, local municipalities, businesses, non-profit organizations, and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.)
  • 6 acres treated in the Betsie River State Game Area and in Betsie Bay
  • 27 roadside sites treated
As we transition into the winter months, collaboration continues as ISN attends the Michigan Invasive Species Coalition Annual Meeting in December. Additionally, plans for outreach and treatment in 2017 are well underway. Stay tuned for updates!

Remember to continue reporting any invasive species sightings to MISIN (Midwest Invasive Species Information Network)
