Monadnock Food Co-op Co-Hosts
Monadnock Earth Day Festival
KEENE, NH - Antioch University New England and the Monadnock Food Co-op co-host this year's Monadnock Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 26, 2014, noon - 4 p.m. at the Railroad Land in Keene, NH (next to the Monadnock Food Co-op, 34 Cypress Street, Keene). This year marks the 44th anniversary of this international celebration.

The festival is free and open to the public with ongoing activities including local food and farm vendors, live music, area non-profit organizations, outdoor yoga session, Monadnock Green Business of the Year Award Ceremony, an interactive climate change exhibit from The Monadnock Sustainability Network and a performance by The Monadnock Folklore Society.  In addition, there will be a bicycle valet to ensure free and secure bicycle parking.

This festival will make important strides to become a zero-waste event by working with The Green Up Girl, a Green Event planner who specializes in coordinating Zero-Waste events.

This year's theme, Healthy Community, Healthy Planet, will help to showcase local businesses, non-profits and individuals who contribute to the health and wellness of the Monadnock community through sustainable business practices, wellness, exercise and/or medical services, or providing healthy food. This event is also co-sponsored by The Works Bakery Cafe and C&S Wholesaler Grocers.

The celebration continues at the Putnam Theater at Keene State University.  A showing of the powerful documentary A Fierce Green Fire:  The Battle for a Living Planet will take place at 7:00 p.m. with a discussion with director Mark Kitchell immediately following.

A Fierce Green Fire: The Battle for a Living Planet is the first big-picture exploration of the environmental movement - grassroots and global activism spanning fifty years from conservation to climate change.  Written and directed by Mark Kitchell, Academy-Award nominated director of Berkeley in the Sixties, and narrated by Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, Ashley Judd, Van Jones and Isabel Allende, the film premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2012 and has won acclaim at dozens of festivals around the world.
