LAST CHANCE: East Brooklyn Congregations (EBC)
Affordable Housing Rally, October 9
On Columbus Day, Monday, October 9 , members of Grace will attend a major rally at City Hall to press Mayor de Blasio to:
  • build 15,000 units of subsidized senior housing on surplus NYCHA land; and
  • rehabilitate NYCHA from top to bottom.
New senior housing would be a significant step in alleviating the city's housing crisis. It would allow seniors in NYCHA apartments to move into the new senior housing and free up NYCHA apartments for thousands of needy families.

The rally is sponsored by East Brooklyn Congregations, an organization of 40 churches and homeowner associations in central Brooklyn, that created Nehemiah Housing. Grace has been a member of EBC since the1980s, beginning under Goldy Sherrill's leadership.

We want a large turnout of Grace members at the City Hall rally. This is Grace's chance to build power within EBC.

To sign up for the rally, contact Mark McIntyre, Ansley Samson or Tom Chittenden .

In Memoriam
Patrick Owen Burns, Sr.
Dear Members and Friends,

We announce with great sadness the death of Patrick Owen Burns, Sr., on Thursday, September 28. He was vibrantly active for a number of years in many aspects of Grace Church life and in the Brooklyn Heights Community. Patrick died in Massachusetts, where he had resided for some years.

A memorial service will be held here at Grace on Saturday, November 11 , beginning 10:30 am , with a reception to follow in Guild Hall.

O God, whose mercies cannot be numbered: Accept our prayers on behalf of your servant Patrick, and grant him an entrance into the land of light and joy, in the fellowship of your saints; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Most merciful God, whose wisdom is beyond our understanding: Deal graciously with all his friends and family in their grief. Surround them with your love, that they may not be overwhelmed by their loss, but have confidence in your goodness, and strength to meet the days to come; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let Light perpetual shine upon him.

Parish Celebration
Potluck Dinner, October 22
We're looking forward to our festive Celebration Potluck on Sunday, October 22 at 5:30 p.m. We are excited to announce that music will be provided by Grace’s best bluegrass band, featuring Grace members Katherine Slingluff and Andy Stuckey.

If you haven't signed up yet, there is still a chance to volunteer to bring your favorite main, appetizer, or dessert. Sign-up sheets are available the back of the Church, or online, in a Google  form .

In general, we recommend people plan a dish that would be shared with around 10 people. Our Stewardship co-chairs,  David  and  Jim  are happy to help with any questions!

Note that there will not be a Harvest Dinner this fall, so this is a great opportunity to share a dinner with the whole Grace community.
