Level 1 Drought Response Lifted for Fulton
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Environmental Protection Division lifted the Level 1 Drought Response on March 8, 2018, for Fulton and 11 other North Georgia counties. Recent winter rains have replenished Lake Lanier, the largest storage reservoir in the Chattahoochee River basin, raising the lake level approximately four feet over the last two months.

Fulton County has a water waste ordinance, requiring citizens to avoid excessive runoff from irrigation and other outdoor water uses as well as from visible leaks, and all Georgians are required to follow the permanent non-drought water use schedule set in place by the Water Stewardship Act of 2010. This schedule allows all outdoor water uses but requires landscape watering to be done before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. The schedule is intended to reduce water lost to evaporation during the warmest part of the day. More information on the non-drought schedule can be found at https://epd.georgia.gov/non-drought-outdoor-water-use-schedule .
