Welcome to Millner Heritage Winery

Good Afternoon:                                                                    6/22/17

Not a lot of news this week. Iza was in the vineyard with Jon working on tucking, this is pushing the leading growth of the vine between the catch wires so it will climb vertically. I suppose in some ways it wasn't really an easy job, got boring fairly fast. But then when Jon challenged Iza to get to the end of the row first once she learned how to do it properly. He offered her a race to the end with a $10 bonus out of his pocket, Iza did win. I asked Jon did you slow up for her, heck no.

Also additional good news in the vineyard this week. Our leaf thinning machine should be arriving next Tuesday. The idea is to tear leaves off in the fruiting zone, where the grape clusters are. So that sunlight can better get onto them to help ripen the grapes. This machine fits on the same frame as we now have mounted on the tractor with a hedging head. Our history without the mechanization has been to manually tear leaves off eight hours a day using your right hand and your left hand. The third is one, dormant pruning will complete the three units. Below is a YouTube video of the leaf thinning choose one.Have some patients with the start of this video, it's a marketing film. Nevertheless this is what our leaf center should look like.

Time to book for the Hog Roast!

I have heard from some more guests this week for the hog roast on July 15, I'd like to hear from you. Please give me a call you'll really like it. Thank you Don.

The hog again will  be roasted on site, Ben of Benny's meats in Hutchinson will be staying up all night babysitting the hog in the roaster. Or is that actually hog sitting, I suppose so. In either event, Ben does a wonderful job and works hard, you'll enjoy his efforts!
