PEC Kids are Excited for the 2014 School Year!
Your support is needed to make 2014 an A+ year for our families.

As summer fades to fall, children around the country are preparing for school to begin. Some face more barriers than others, including poverty, trauma and a lack of stability. It is difficult for learning to occur when worries about physical safety, food and shelter are weighing down your thoughts.

Several years ago, Thomas*, his mother, and his siblings left an abusive relationship. After spending time living house to house, they came to PEC. In addition to not having a place to live, Thomas and his siblings had experienced multiple traumas, and were significantly

 delayed academically.

At PEC, our school age residents receive not only physical shelter and stability, but also the opportunity to learn and grow in our afterschool programs. Through the help of the Case Management Staff, CPECE Program and After School staff, and volunteer tutors, Thomas began to experience success in school. We are excited to report that this year he became a high-school graduate! We are so proud of his success and will continue to support him in his future endeavors.

Arts and Crafts Time with Miss Devon

Every year, children like Thomas come to PEC to find shelter. At PEC these children find more than a bed-they receive access to excellent tutoring, academic enrichment, and healing from previous trauma through our After School programs.

We need your help to make this year an A+ year for our students. Visit give.pec-cares.org to make your gift today. (Please add "Back to School" in the comments section.)

Families Find Room to Grow at PEC

Transitional housing is a family's bridge from homelessness to a permanent home. This summer individuals, organizations and companies donated to support our 37 transitional housing units through the Room to Grow initiative, and were added to our Room to Grow Donor Wall.

A family stays in transitional housing for up to 24 months, and the support of Room to Grow ensures that our families continue to live in a safe, welcoming place while they work to improve their circumstances and prepare to move to permanent housing. To learn more about the Room to Grow initiative, contact Linda Wasilchick, PEC's Vice President of Resource and Business Development, at lwasilchick@pec-cares.org

Eight Year-old Donor Sells Water Ice, Brings Joy to PEC families
In August, we received 40 book bags filled with school supplies for PEC families from an unexpected donor. Aniyah is 8 years old, and raised money for the school supplies at her water ice stand this summer. Her mission is to help those in need and promote education in memory of her father who passed away when she was 2 years old.

Thank you, Aniyah, for your thoughtful gift of backpacks and school supplies as we get ready for the new school year! You are an amazing, inspiring young lady!
