"Everyone in our community is uniting behind Gustavo"
Bronx - Former competitor Desiree Pilgrim-Hunter formally endorsed Gustavo Rivera today, joining Dan Padernacht in calling for unity to defeat notorious State Senator Pedro Espada.

Pilgrim-Hunter said: "As a community leader, progressive activist, and resident of the Northwest Bronx for more than twenty-six years, the need for drastic ethical reform in state government has long been obvious to me. But the need for these reforms became more clear with the return of Pedro Espada, Jr. to Bronx politics. As a state senator, he has come to stand for everything unethical, corrupt and dysfunctional in Albany. Espada has repeatedly demonstrated a total disregard for his office, the needs of our constituents, and a complete disloyalty to the Democratic Party. It's time to elect the leader this community deserves. We need a Senator who will stand side-by-side with the residents of his district and fight to build a stronger Northwest Bronx community and to bring much needed reform to the Democratic Party."

"This is why everyone in our community is uniting behind Gustavo. I am supporting Gustavo Rivera because the Northwest Bronx, my community, deserves a better leader than Pedro Espada. We have an opportunity on Tuesday, September 14th to get it right. I am going to make sure that everyone in our community who wants change comes out this Election Day to vote for Gustavo Rivera. He is the only candidate who can make the change we need and who will be accountable to his community."

Gustavo Riverasaid: "Desiree is a relentless fighter for her community and I am proud and humbled to have her support. Desiree and I both believe that the Northwest Bronx deserves leaders who will fight for jobs and affordable housing, and always put the needs of the community before personal gain. Together I know we can get out the vote this Tuesday and make the change our community needs."
