"Hef was the best money I ever spent.
We need each other."

Dave Rosen, a retired Marine Corps Sergeant and Vietnam War veteran, is one adopter who found his new best friend through the "Pets for Vets" program.
When visiting us this past August, Dave had an instant connection with a 10-year old Pomeranian mix named Hef. "I saw this little dog and we just looked at each other and I turned to my wife and said 'that's our dog,'" Dave recalled. The bond deepened when Dave learned that the 20 pound pooch, who was rescued as a stray suffering from a skin infection, has partial blindness and hearing loss in the left ear, just like he does. Dave also suffers from PTSD and finds comfort and peace through his canine companion.
"Hef was the best money I ever spent. We need each other," says Dave of his decision to adopt. As it turns out, you can teach an old dog new tricks: Hef has also completed "Emotional Support Animal" training. Dave and Hef spend time volunteering at retirement and nursing homes to provide support to elderly residents. By helping others in need, together Dave and Hef embody the true purpose of the "Pets for Vets" program - companionship and support.
