"Raising Happiness" at Sequoia High School  Please join Linden Tree and Speakers for Parents in Cooperative Education (SPICE) on Monday, January 30th, from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at Sequoia High School in Redwood City for a special event with Christine Carter, Ph.D., author of Raising Happiness: 10 Simple Steps for More Joyful Kids and Happier Parents.Drawing on what psychology, sociology, and neuroscience have proven about confidence, gratefulness, and optimism, and using her own chaotic and often hilarious real world adventures as a mom to demonstrate do's and don'ts in action, Dr. Carter will give us simple steps for raising happier children. At this talk, you will learn how to: - Praise kids in a way that will help them stay engaged in school and their activities
- Combat entitlement and brattiness--with gratitude
- Capture the power of family mealtime

Valentine Crafts and Treats at Linden Tree!
Don't miss this month's "First Friday" on Friday, February 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., sponsored by Los Altos Forward and many merchants in town. This month's event will be Valentine's Day themed, with dessert tastings, music, and valentine crafts throughout town!
Linden Tree will stay open until 8:00 p.m. with Valentine card making and treats at the store. See you then!

2012 Youth Media Award Winners
 The American Library Association (ALA) announced the top books, video and audiobooks for children and young adults - including the Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Newbery and Printz awards.
The John Newbery Medal, for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature, is "Dead End in Norvelt," written by Jack Gantos.
The Randolph Caldecott Medal, for the most distinguished American picture book for children, is "A Ball for Daisy," illustrated and written by Chris Raschka.
The Michael L. Printz Award, for excellence in literature written for young adults, is "Where Things Come Back," by John Corey Whaley.
The Coretta Scott King (Author) Book Award, recognizing an African American author and illustrator of outstanding books for children and young adults, is Kadir Nelson, author and illustrator of "Heart and Soul: The Story of America and African Americans."

Special Magic Show and 20% Off Promotion Saturday, February 11th!
 Linden Tree is pleased to present Steve Koehler, a.k.a. "Mr. Horsefeathers", who will be presenting his special blend of magic, juggling, and comedy for kids of all ages at our store on Saturday, February 11th at noon!
He has performed at LA Art and Wine Festival and all the local libraries. To support the show, everything at the store will be 20% off from noon to 1:00 p.m. that day!*
