Revised and Updated Survey

Several parents have contacted their local police departments since last year to express their interest in having a tracking device for their child.  This effort was largely due to news reports in October of 2013 about the missing child, Avonte Oquendo, and the discovery of his remains 3 months later after an extensive search had been conducted in New York City.  (click here for a magazine article published in March 2014.)

If you are interested in such a device or program for your child or adult with an autism spectrum disorder, please complete a NEW online detailed survey (click here) so we can gather your responses.  As of now, there is not money set aside for such a program locally and it would help us show the interest in a tracking device program if we can have your input.  However, various law enforcement agencies are interested in learning who would like their child or adult on the spectrum to participate in a program involving tracking devices.

The Lafayette Parish School System will be distributing hard copies of the newest survey to certain classes which contain individuals with autism before the end of the 2013-2014 school year. Please complete and return the survey you will receive from your child's teacher or you may access the online version at this address, click here. Survey responses should be received in our office by June 15 for this first round, but we will continue to collect survey results throughout the year.
