Sistah-Drummers Prepare to Give Males a Celebratory Salute
"Salamu" in Swahili means "Salute" and on Sunday, June 17, 2012 one of Atlanta's most honored World Music, Dance and Vocal Ensembles, Giwayen Mata and special guests, are saluting fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, and special loved ones!
Expect a 90-minute, high-energy live concert production that is guaranteed to pull you out of your seat for a feel-good family-friendly experience! You will be 'wowed' by the elephant roar of the 18-member ensemble's djembe drum orchestra, traditional West African and contemporary dancing, singing, and spoken word. You will also learn teachings, dances, songs and spoken word hailing from various regions of Africa.
Recognized by The City of Atlanta, The State of Georgia, and National Organizations and Media Outlets, Giwayen Mata has, for 19-years, reigned as a "fan-favorite" and was given the title "BEST WORLD MUSIC ACT" three-times by Creative Loafing Atlanta Magazine.

Approaching their 20-Year Anniversary, GIWAYEN MATA, the Atlanta-based dynamic, soul-stirring, all-sistah, dance, percussion, and vocal ensemble has 'wowed' audiences throughout the nation with high-energy-filled performances, workshops and classes. Dedicated to perpetuating the study and teachings of African cultures through dances, rhythms, and songs of Africa to audiences of all ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds, the GIWAYEN MATA 'Elephant Women' celebrate and uplift women, the community and the planet. Founded by Omelika Kuumba, Gail V. Zuri Sami Ra Maati Jordan, Sarahn Henderson and seven other women, the 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization has been recognized by USA Magazine and was voted "Best Local International / World Music Act" three times in Creative Loafing Magazine's Best of Atlanta Issue.
