ROGATION SUNDAY

"Rogation" is connected to the Latin word for "asking," and refers to a traditional time of praying for agriculture. Traditionally celebrated on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the Sixth Sunday in Easter, Rogation Services are a time to pray for planting and for those working with the land. In rural areas, many people bless the elements used in farming, the fields, the seeds and that animals. In urban areas a blessing of gardens, and local businesses can be done. This is a time to show gratitude for soil, water and growth, and to challenge ourselves to think carefully of the food we eat, our care of water, earth and seed.

After a welcome to our new website (immediately following our 10:00 a.m. worship), we will be heading to the Islamic Center of Boston, Wayland for a visit to learn more about Islam.  We will tour the mosque and be able to ask questions, learn about the five pillars of Islam, observe what Christians share in common with Muslims and find a sense of unity with one another in the faith of Abraham.  Our tour begins at 12:30, allowing us a chance to grab a snack and share a late lunch.

ST. PAUL'S BOOK GROUP

Our next meeting will be
Wednesday, June 7 at 7PM in the Rectory where we will discuss The Big House: A Century in the Life of an American Summer Home by George Howe Colt.
Faced with the sale of the century-old family summer house on Cape Cod where he had spent forty-two summers, George Howe Colt returned for one last stay with his wife and children. This poignant tribute to the eleven-bedroom jumble of gables, bays, and dormers that watched over weddings, divorces, deaths, anniversaries, birthdays, breakdowns, and love affairs for five generations interweaves Colt's final visit with memories of a lifetime of Brahman family summers.  Run-down yet romantic, The Big House stands not only as a cherished reminder of summer's ephemeral pleasures but also as a powerful symbol of a vanishing way of life.

The Blue Bunny will have it in stock early next week at our usual 20% discount if you mention the book group.
All are welcome.

KNITTING OUTREACH

Once a month (late Sunday afternoon) we will venture to the Dedham Community Theater at 580 High Street to see a movie.  No need to RSVP, simply arrive for the movie and look for Reverend McCarley. Following the movie we will adjourn to a local eating establishment to reflect on the themes, acting, directing of the movie. Join us for lively discussion and entertainment that supports our local community!

WE'RE IN SEARCH OF MUSICIANS...

Summer is coming-and our Choir is taking a well-deserved break.

This is a wonderful time for us to summon talent from our pews. If you, or your child, play an instrument or sing, David Tierney, our Minister of Music, would be delighted to hear from you. This is an opportunity for us to share our gifts with one another-and, for the younger members of our congregation, to have an opportunity to play music or sing before a supportive and appreciative gathering of worshipers. Please let David know if you would like to help us out during the warmer months. David can be reached at d.tierney@rivers.org .

HELP US SEND KYLE AND AIDAN
MACKENZIE TO OKLAHOMA!

The Diocese of Massachusetts is sending ten high school youths who will represent our Diocese at the Episcopal Youth Event in Oklahoma from July 10 - July 14th.

TWO of those young people are our very own Aidan and Kyle Mackenzie. The cost for their participation is $1,500.00. Please consider making a donation (made out to St. Paul's Church
) to cover the cost of their travel and participation. In return for your sponsorship, Kyle and Aidan will present a slideshow and sermon about their experience.

Every three years, in accordance with General Convention Resolution #1982-D079, the Episcopal Church convenes an international youth event so "that the energy of the youth of the Episcopal Church can continue to be utilized in active ministry as members of the Body of Christ."

Since the first EYE in 1982, this popular event has welcomed thousands of young people from across the Episcopal Church for celebration, worship, learning, and leadership training.

The B-SAFE Program (The Bishop's Summer Academic & Enrichment Program) is a five-week, full-day academic and enrichment program serving young people from first grade through high school.  The goal of the program is to build a community where all people feel safe, feel big, and feel connected.  This summer we will be running ten programs in six Boston area neighborhoods.  Each site will include academic programs in reading, writing and math; visual and performing art workshops; science activities; recreational activities; and many field trips.  A healthy breakfast and lunch will be served each day, along with an end of day snack.
