Welcome to Spring!  We are highlighting some of this week's activities.  Tuesday night April 18 is our  Positive Motivation workshop.  Thursday, April 20 we will be at the  Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase.   Saturday, April 22 is the Kite Flying Festival

The Special Events List for April to May is now posted.  I'd like to highlight the Emsway Walk for Boating Safety on May 21 and the Jim Fixx Memorial Day 5 Mile Road Race on May 29.  The  Fireworks  date has been set for July 1.
 
Summer Day Camp program registration has begun for residents.   The Summer Schedule for Tennis  is now available and registration has begun on-line.  Youth and adult tennis clinic instruction will be held in June, July and early August.   Cos Cob Preschool  is accepting registrations for the 2017-18 year. 
 
There are still a few openings in our spring sports programs mentioned below.  Super Soccer Stars soccer program registration has begun, read more.

The Greenwich Skatepark will not be open for this spring season.  A new concrete park will soon be under construction and is scheduled to open in July.

For questions on any of our programs, please email the Recreation Division at recreation@greenwichct.org .  The office at Town Hall is open weekdays, 8 AM to 4 PM . Plus, much sports information can be found on our Recreation Sports Website  in addition to the Town Website .

Spring Soccer soccer
Limited openings remain in  our Mighty Mites Soccer program for  ages 3-9 .  Registration will only be accepted at the Town Hall Parks and Recreation Office. The program begins Saturday April 22.  

Registration is now open for our Saturday program for ages 9-12 held in conjunction with Super Soccer Stars.  This program will be held at Loughlin Avenue Field from 12:30 - 2:00 PM, beginning April 22.  

Super Soccer Stars will also be running our soccer programs on Mondays and Fridays, beginning April 24 and 28, respectively.  The clinic program for ages 4-5 will run from 4:00-5:00 PM; the clinic programs for ages 6-12 will be held from 5:00-6:00 PM at Loughlin Avenue Field. Summer Day Camps summercamps
Early Bird Registration on Now
Online registration began April 1 for three day camps for youth.  Early Bird registration at a discounted fee rate is available for residents through May 31 only.  Camp sections do fill up, so register early!

Kamp Kairphree  is a co-ed program for children ages 5-12.  It operates weekdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM out of the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center.  There are four sessions of two weeks each. Read more.

Adventurers is a co-ed program for ages 8-15 that runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, weekdays.  The on-site location is the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center, and there are weekly special field trips.  There are two sessions totaling seven weeks.
  
Music and Art   is for students who have completed 3rd grade to 8th grade by June 2017.  It will be held for 5 weeks at Greenwich High School. Experience is required for Senior and Junior Band and Senior and Junior String sections.  No experience is needed for Beginning Band or Art sections.  Afternoon Art is only open to those who participate in morning music sections.   
Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase
April 20, 5:30 - 8:30 PM Chamber
The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase take place this week.   The event will be held at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center, on April 20 from 5:30-8:30 PM.  Tickets are $20 for chamber members and $30 for non-members. Purchase tickets online here.  For more information,  click here.
Cos Cob Preschool preschool
Register Now for 2017-18
Cos Cob Preschool, licensed by the State of CT, is for ages 3 and 4.  Classes are held Monday-Friday, 9:00 -11:30 AM, and families may sign up for classes 3, 4, or 5 days per week.  The Preschool's Mission is to provide a safe, happy, fun loving environment in which children can learn and grow.  Our teachers will help children to learn and live by the principles of honesty, compassion, and fairness.  Registration is available  online.

Youth T-ball, Baseball Registration
Adult Pickleball
Registration is being accepted on a limited basis for spring sports programs.   Co-ed T-Ball is available for ages 4 and 5.  Children must be 4 or 5 by April 30, 2017.  Children 6 years old can participate in Small Fry I Baseball which incorporates coach pitching and using the T if necessary.  Registration is only being accepted in person at the Bendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center on weekdays from 9:30 AM-8:00 PM.

Resident adults who know how to play Pickleball can now register on-line or by mail for Indoor Spring Pickleball one, two, or three days per week beginning in March.   
Eastern Greenwich Civic Center EGCC
The Chamber of Commerce's Business Showcase will take place on April 20.    Special events coming in May include a Teak Furniture Sale, and Annual Plant Sale.  The EGCC has many activities planned including, Pickleball,  Roller Skating,  Wednesday Painters Group, Archery Team,   Good Dog Training Classes and more.   For additional information on these and other programs, see our  April Newsletter.  



The Civic Center has rooms of varying sizes available to rent for your next party, meeting, or class!  Call us at (203) 637-4583 or contact us by e-mail .  The EGCC is located at 90 Harding Road in Old Greenwich.  
BWGCCBendheim Western Greenwich Civic Center
Information is available for Summer Basketball; registration begins in June.  Jay and Ray Music  has classes for ages 6 months to 4 years old.     BWGCC has other fun programs for youth including, Just Wee Two, and Italian Classes.  Check out the many programs of The Dance Pointe which are held at BWGCC.  The Dance Pointe is taking registration now for Summer 2017.

Adults can participate in Zumba classes.  Open Coed Adult Volleyball is held Tuesdays from 7:30-9:00 PM.    Adults can drop-in to play Pickleball; see the  Pickleball schedule    KG Fitness Boot Camp class will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Register for one or both evenings.

Special Recreation
Abilis meets the needs of people with developmental disabilities throughout their lives.  Abilis works in schools, civic organizations, and with families throughout Fairfield County.  Their events are posted on their website calendar.   Also, the Stamford JCC offers a unique summer experience for Pre-K to Kindergarteners and 3rd to 8th Graders with a variety of needs. As a reminder, when registering for programs or reserving facilities for the first time in 2017, each Greenwich household will need to provide proper proof of residency for the new year.  For complete information on rules and regulations of Parks and Recreation, click here for the Greenwich Town Code, Chapter 7.

 

The next meeting of the Board of Parks and Recreation will be Wednesday, April 26 at 6:30 PM.  Much additional information can be found by viewing the Parks and Recreation page of the Town Website.  Office hours at Town Hall are weekdays, 8 AM to 4 PM.

POSITIVE MOTIVATION: Getting the Best from Athletes will be held Tuesday, April 18 at the EGCC.   All attendees have the opportunity to win an autographed book by Women's Soccer Olympic Gold Medalist Brandi Chastain. 

Kite Flying Festival Kite

The 2017 Kite Flying Festival will be held Saturday, April 22 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Greenwich Point.  The event is co-hosted by the India Cultural Center of Greenwich. Live music will be provided by Jay and Ray.
Snow Sculpture Winner

After a close contest, the winner of the 2017 Snow Sculpture Contest is  Christina Bergen, shown above with her sculpture " Snow Princess".

Parks & Recreation Foundation PRFoundation
The Greenwich Parks & Recreation Foundation was set up to receive donations, allowing the community citizens and businesses an avenue to donate to the Town of Greenwich Parks & Recreation projects and  programs.  The foundation is a 501(c)(3).  For more information and to donate, visit the Foundation website .
  
Through the Parks & Recreation Foundation, one is able to donate to the Parks & Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Weather Cancellation Information
Please make note of the Recreation Division's weather cancellation hotline phone # (203) 861-6100.  Information regarding cancellations and closures is also posted on our Recreation Sports Website , where you can also sign up to get text alerts and/or e-mails notifying you of changes. 

Recreation Credit and Refund Policy
Credit requests for recreation program registration will be considered if received in writing prior to the start of the program.  There is a $15.00 administrative fee for credits.
  
The general policy of the Recreation Division is that we do not process refunds unless a program has been cancelled.  Please read all registration information carefully and contact us prior to registering for a program if you have any questions.
