“The Fight Against Cherokee Removal” – A Talk at DePaul University on April 18th from 2:40pm to 4:10pm
The fight to try to prevent what became the Trail of Tears and Death was a closely fought battle in the 1830s. The final vote on the “Removal Bill” in the House of Representatives in 1830 was 102 to 97. When the issue reached the Supreme Court in 1831 everything came down to the views of one man—the Chief Justice, John Marshall. In a lecture and discussion on the subject that is open to the public—in room 309 of the Arts and Letters Hall at DePaul University (2315 N Kenmore)—Steve Schwartzberg will review this history and its present-day implications.
