People Profile

PLAYLAB member Laura Emack, who travels every month from near Bangor to attend PLAYLAB, had her lastest endeavor Poor Mr Herville read at the latest meeting.  Loosely based on the life of Herman Melville, the play explores the life of a writer who struggles for recognition.  Laura's plays have been seen in New York City, Omaha Nebraska, and throughout Maine. Husson University Theatre will produce the world premiere of The Easter Parade at The Gracie in Bangor on December 7, 8 and 9, 2012. Prior productions include The Piazza based on a story by Herman Melville (New York City 2007), A Feral Catch (Kennebunk ME 2008), and Backseat Driver (Portland, ME 2010). Laura is a member of the Dramatists Guild of America and Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance. Laura feeds her writing habit by working part-time as a CPA at Haverlock, Estey & Curran. She resides in Prospect, Maine with her husband and son.

Greetings!

Al D'Andrea and Margit Ahlin

We didn't quite make the end-of-October deadline for this newsletter (thanks, Sandy), but we're excited to officially announce our latest venture into new musical territory with our June production of The Freaks Club.  Our hoped-for March production is still seeking the perfect venue, so stay tuned for that, and read more about The Freaks Club below!

Sincerely,

THE FREAKS CLUB will premiere in Portland!

Snowlion Rep's new musical offering this season will be The Freaks Club, set to premiere in Portland June 13-23 at Portland Stage Company's Studio Theater.

The Freaks Club is a hip, funny musical that tells the story of Anna, a girl with fish-scale skin who travels to a remote island community in search of a cure, bonding with the other high school "freaks" in the process. The cure is successful, and as she turns from "fish" to "dish," her dream-come-true turns into a nightmare.  Anna must ultimately discover that what really matters in life is found deep beneath the surface in each of us.

The show, by Tom Adams and MK Wolfe, has been workshopped in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Stamford CT, and now will have its world premiere production directed by Al D'Andrea.  We'll be sharing more about the show as opening night approaches!
