Letter from the Executive Director

September has been a great month filled with getting to know our families and scholars and settling into a new school year:
  • Over the past three weeks, we've already had the opportunity to host family events like ice cream socials and academic nights.
  • We brought together families and community members for a book talk with education reformer and writer Dr. Howard Fuller.
  • On September 13, a group of 100+ community volunteers built Elementary School 2 scholars a playground. You can see more highlights from the month below, under BVP news.
What we've accomplished in just this short time together is truly incredible

These are only a few of the highlights - I welcome you to stay connected with us by reading this newsletter monthly, and by connecting with us on FacebookTwitter, and LinkedIn

My best,

Jeremy Chiappetta

BVP News

Howard Fuller visited BVP on September 11! Middle school and high school scholars had the opportunity to meet Dr. Fuller, who made a special stop at BVP to give a signing and talk about his new book, No Struggle, No Progress.  At the middle school scholar ambassadors, pictured to the left, gave Dr. Fuller a tour, and he made some time to stop by a social studies class after lunch to participate in a discussion.

Then, he made his way to the high school for a "town hall." Scholars were so engaged by his stories and advice that the planned 45 minute event lasted 90 minutes, complete with a "selfie" line to take photos with our special guest! The day concluded with his book talk, which was open to the community at Elementary School 1.
School Highlight

BVP Middle School

Middle school scholars and teachers have been sharing their "whys," or what they are working towards, and they are amazing to hear.

When asked about his "why," one scholar said, "My mom: she struggles for me. Now it's time to give her what she deserves."
