On October 12, President Trump, surrounded by Republican legislators, Agency representatives, and select business representatives signed an Executive Order designed to undermine the Affordable Care Act.
"We've been hearing about the disaster of Obamacare for so long," began Trump in a press conference preceding the signing of the order. "Seven years ago Congressional Democrats broke the health care system...." The executive order, bolstering association health plans and extending short term insurance, Trump continued, "is powerful for our nation."
The executive order itself instructs three Agencies to draft regulations to carry out the President's wishes. The administrative process that the order directs will take months to unfold. In fact, in the months ahead, Treasury, Labor, and Health and Human Services will research and draft new rules for coverage that the President argued would be more affordable and cover more people. Trump stated, "people now will have so many options....People will have great, great health care." The process will also require public input and comment.
