Epiphany with W.H. Auden.

Tonight at 7 pm. Parish Hall

This is late notice, but the time seems right.

In 1944, W.H. Auden published a 1200 line poem entitled "For The Time Being: A Christmas Oratorio. (Dennis quoted from it in his sermon on New Year's Day.) It is quite engaging and begs to be read aloud by multiple voices. After church on Sunday, several of you mentioned an interest in doing just that, along with the suggestion of doing it on Epiphany. As it happens, today is Epiphany.

It is a long poem, and our hunch is that it will probably take 2 hours to read. But there will be refreshments and the conviviality! Copies will be provided, along with a summary and analysis of the work, but no preparation is required. Some of the longer parts have been assigned, but everyone will be invited to participate. The public is welcome. Hope to see you at 7 pm in the Parish Hall to give voice to the poet's take on a story we think we know by heart. You might be surprised, even have an epiphany!

Welcome Karen!
We are happy to announce that Karen Kilty will be starting this Sunday as our new Director of Children's Ministries!

Karen is  a life-long member of  Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers  and has served there in many capacities, including Deacon, high school church teacher, acolyte coordinator and Yoga-as-Faith formation.  She is a spiritual director, and has completed the "Gateways to God" program, training in spiritual direction and congregational formation at Rolling Ridge Retreat Center in North Andover. She completed the Christian Education Certification program with the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ, which gave her the opportunity to deepen her understanding of faith development and who we are as people of the United Church of Christ. Karen also served as Program Coordinator for the Center of Spirituality and Leadership at Rolling Ridge Retreat Center.   She is grateful to be called to companion people of all ages, and now especially ONC children and families, along their faith journey.

Old North Women's Christmas!
Thursday, January 19 at 7pm
Great Room
Did you know that in Ireland, there is a long tradition of  Nollaig na mBan, "Women's Christmas" which is celebrated on Epiphany, January 6?  On the last day of Christmas women would get a much needed rest after catering to everyone during the holidays?  They would gather in each other's homes and local pubs for a few hours of gaiety!  Well, Epiphany has past, and many of us are not Irish, but in that spirit, all Old North women and friends are invited to enjoy a glass of wine or seltzer and small plates while we enjoy each other's company and socialize. Please drop by!  Contact Marcia Hostetter (hostetter.marcia@gmail.com) or Karla Miller (karla@onchurch.org) for more information.

Career Transitions Group Schedule Change
Beginning on Sunday, January 22 and continuing through the end of March, the group will meet on Sunday mornings at 11:30am in the Beals Room in the Stacey St office building. The Thursday meetings have been discontinued.

Welcoming the Stranger
January 22 at 10am
St. Andrews Church

Save the Date! St. Andrews Episcopal Church has extended an invitation to Old North Church and Temple Emanu-el congregations to join them on Sunday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m.-11:15 a.m. for their Sunday morning service.  It will be an opportunity to worship together as well as support our collaborative efforts on behalf of the Welcoming The Stranger Project. A light brunch will be served following the service. Our three houses of worship have joined together to support RIM (Refugee Immigration Ministry) through the  Marblehead Cluster which has been responsible for helping a Haitian mother and her toddler, who have sought asylum, to find housing in Salem as well as legal services, medical care, English lessons, hugs, transportation, and many other forms of support. This is not only a wonderful way to support the Welcoming the Stranger Project but to meet members of other congregations in Marblehead.   For more information, please contact Richard Thibedeau (rsthibedeau@verizon.net) or Linda Duvel (william.duvel@verizon.net ).

Festival Chorus CD's

CDS of our most recent Festival Chorus Christmas Concerts, as well as other years, are available. If you'd like to purchase one (or more!), you may do so at coffee hour or contact Jane Kraybill at 781 631 4832 or email: kraybill@email.com. Please help us reach our goal of "break even" on the cost of making these extraordinary recordings!
Copies of the revised version of CD2's (from 2016) are still in production, but will be available in the next 10 days. The technical glitch that is being corrected is only track #10 on the second CD.
