Contemplative Prayer -  Lent is a time of deepening our relationship with God.  During this season of reflection and preparation, the SMAA Contemplative Prayer Group invites you to participate in our weekly contemplative prayer service.  We meet in the Sanctuary from 7-8 pm every Monday evening.

Christian Mysticism

March 22 - The great German theologian, Karl Rahner, wrote that, "The Christian of tomorrow will be a mystic, one who has EXPERIENCED something, or he will be nothing."

A mystic is, quite simply, someone who has experienced union with God. Unfortunately we tend to think that mystics are few and far between, and that only other people - not you and me! - are called to union with God. In the Gospel of John on the night before he died, Jesus prayed to God, "The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." (John 17:22-23) And the Apostle Paul reminds us that, "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me." (Galatians 2:19-20)

In this series we will look at the vocation all Christians have to become mystics, to walk toward union with God. In addition to presentations, Canon Travis will guide us through several exercises in contemplative prayer, which is essential on the Christian mystical journey.

She comes to AAEDS with vast experience and extraordinary talents. She will spend afternoons March 16-20 at our school meeting individually with teachers and staff. The following week. March 23-27, she will work with Becky on transition with the staff, students, and parents.

Casa San Miguel

2015 marks the 25th anniversary of the founding of the food pantry.  To help honor the occasion, we are collecting memorabilia and written thoughts about the food pantry to preserve the history of this ministry.  We are especially interested in the early years, from 1990 to 2000, however, anything from any year is welcome.  If you have something that would help us preserve the memory of the food pantry, please either drop it off at the church office or contact Bruce Elsner at 296-4477.  If you have old photos, please identify the date - the year would be good - and who is in the picture.  If you want your picture or memento back, please let us know and we will return it.  Thank you for keeping this ministry alive and for helping us preserve its history.

Cleaning Day

You are invited to help with this years cleaning day on Saturday March 28.  We generally gather with our vacuums, buckets, clean towels, murphy oil at around  9 AM and finish up around 11:00 or 11:30 AM depending on how much help we have!!!!!!

We always need all the help we can get. We vacuum under all the cushions, polish the silver,  wipe down all the bancos,  wipe down all the pews and woodwork  with water and Murphy's oil.

The more people we get the faster we get finished.

You do not have to contact anyone, Just show up ready to help get the sanctuary ready for Easter Morning.

Blessings to you.

Newcomers Class

A Newcomers class will be held March 17 and 24, and April 7 and 14, in the Parish Hall, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

The class serves those interested in adult Baptism, Confirmation, Reception into the Episcopal Church or Reaffirmation of faith. It is also helpful for anyone who has transferred to our parish and serve as a refresher for those who have not explored these subjects recently.

United Thank Offering

Our Spring United Thank Offering season will end Palm Sunday, March 29.  On that day we ask that you return your little blue box filled with the coins representing your thanks for our many daily blessings.  Large baskets will be available in the Narthex as well as in the Parish Hall if that is where we gather for the service.  The baskets will be collected and presented at the altar.   Please remember to bring your box to church and place it into one of the baskets.  If you are unable to bring it on Palm Sunday, you may bring it to church any Sunday after that and drop it in the collection plate or during the week deliver it to the Parish Administrator.

St. Michael and All Angels will have a second 2015 season of United Thank offerings in August.  If you desire, you may pick up a new UTO box from the rack at the back of the Narthex and keep it in your home for your daily thank offering all year.  Just place it in the collection basket when it is full and pick up another one.  A supply will be kept in the card rack at the back of the Narthex
Lent Monday Night Movies

Mondays during Lent will be movie night.  Mondays at 6:00 pm,  we will gather in the Pavilion to watch a film.  Afterwards we will break into small groups to discuss the movie and how the subject or conflict affects our lives as Christians.  EVERYone is welcome to attend.

Urban Way of the Cross

Urban Way of the Cross, an annual pilgrimage of solidarity, hope and healing,  will begin and end at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW (Copper & 6th St) on Good Friday, April 3.  The walk begins at 9:00 am and ends with a closing reception at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall at 11:00 am.   For more information, contact the Rev. Susan Allison-Hatch, [email protected]

Becky, Anne and Easter Hams

Please join All Angels Board Members on Sunday March 22, 2015 during the coffee hour between services.  We will introduce you to our new Director, Anne Duran, and we will have the opportunity to say goodbye to our current Director, Becky Stewart, who has been instrumental in leading our school to great successes these past few years.  We will also have hams for sale.  Please also mark your calendars for  Sunday April 26, when we will once again offer Village Inn pie cards for sale.  Thank you for all you do to support our marvelous All Angels Day School ministry.

Flower Dedications

We are so grateful to have beautiful flowers in the church on Sundays.  This is possible because of parishioner donations.   In order to assure your dedication is in the bulletin at the right time:

Please verify with Kathryn in the office all your flower donations. If you are donating flowers, sign YOUR NAME on the flower chart and fill out a donation card with the name and information of the person/people you are honoring.  Get that card to Kathryn at least two weeks before the dedication date to insure it is included in the bulletin.  And please remember to include payment. Unfortunately, Kathryn does not always know the difference between the name of the parishioner and the person being honored.  This creates confusion and the possibility that your dedication will not be done correctly.
