Greetings!
Happy Independence Day! Wow! America's Independence Day, France's Independence Day and Belgium Independence Day are all in July, what a great excuse to drink a lot of great beer (including the Saisons we discuss in this month's article 'Tis the Saison...) from all 3 countries! And that is exactly how we plan to spend this month! We're off to Belgium and France to meet with our brewers and suppliers for our October/November Grand Crus to Farmhouse Brus Beercation Cruise. Yes, our "quality control" is a rough job, but someone's gotta do it, so it may as well be us! ;) In case you haven't had a chance to check out the webpage for this Beercation, we will be visiting Chimay, Rodenbach, In de Vrede Cafe at Westvleteren, Saint Bernardus, St. Canarus, Brasserie Thiriez, Van Eecke, Brasserie St. Germain(Page 24), Brasserie Balleux , Abbay des Rocs...and so much more... And for those of you who have been asking, we've decided to open a few single occupancy cabins for this trip. We can also help you with roommate pairings on any of our trips as we get requests. Just email us and we'll let you know as soon as we have a potential roommate for you. Availability is limited though, so if you are thinking of joining us, you'll need to book soon or you'll miss the boat!  'Tis the Season... for Saisons!
Since we are heading over to France and Belgium in a few days to meet with suppliers for our upcoming Grand Crus to Farmhouse Brews tour, I thought I'd share a few fun facts about saisons.
Saison, is the French word for season. They were named such because before the advent of modern refrigeration, they were brewed in the fall and winter -during the cool season- to be consumed during the summer season by the farmworkers in the French speaking Wallonia region of Belgium. Since they were brewed on the farms, they are also often called Farmhouse Ales. click here for the rest of this article about saisons...
