City Launches DPW App
Just when you thought you've seen everything, the City's Department of Public Works launches a new app to help keep White Plains residents informed about garbage and recycling collection ... electronically.

Called White Plains DPW at Your Service,  this new app provides residents with all of the same information they have been receiving on paper for years in a clear, concise, easily accessible, and more personalized way.

And there's more!  Homeowners can view the garbage and recycling collection schedules specific to their home addresses. The app also let's you schedule pick-ups for larger, bulk items and find guidance on how to dispose of items not available for pick up. And if you're like us and often forget your pick up days, the app will let you set daily reminders.

White Plains DPW at Your Service is available for free download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. More here.
Colorful Downtown Street Art Marks ArtsWestchester's 20th Anniversary
In commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of their presence in White Plains, ArtsWestchester, in coordination with the City, commissioned a fun, colorful, and engaging street art project.

Located in front of the ArtsWestchester headquarters on the corner of Mamaroneck and Martine Avenues, well-known street artist Wayne "Wane One" Peterkin designed and installed a kaleidoscopic street mural in the designated drop off/pick up lane.

Artist Peterkin explains, "My design pays tribute to the dynamism of downtown White Plains, while the shifting colors are a nod to the transformative powers of the arts as embodied by ArtsWestchester."

ArtsWestchester, the largest private not-for-profit arts council in New York State, has helped fund concerts, exhibitions, and plays, and has advocated for the arts in Westchester County.  Come downtown and check out the mural!  Click here to learn more about the project and ArtsWestchester!
Get Ready To Rock at City's Independence Day Celebration on July 3rd at WP High School
The City of White Plains has a special treat in store for residents as part of the free Independence Day Celebration on July 3rd at White Plains High School.

In addition to fireworks, food and fun activities for the kids, we are excited to announce that this year on the main stage we'll have the famous West Point Benny Havens Band. They are not your father's marching band. They have performed for the NY Giants half-time show and many other venues. They are sure to rock - and we know you won't be disappointed! Check them out here.

Nourishment for your Mind and Body at the White Plains Public Library -- New Cafe Opens!
Some libraries offer coffee and snacks, but few have full-blown cafes with extensive food and beverage selections. You can now add the White Plains Public Library to that short list.

The Library opened its highly anticipated Everyday Healthy CafĂ© in May. It is just the latest in a series of renovations to the Library's first floor that include the Hub, a library for adults, and a new Community Room.

The cafe serves an array of soups, salads, sandwches, smoothies, coffees and teas and provides indoor seating as well as outdoor seating on Martine Avenue. The cafe is also home to the popular Friends Bookstore, which offers a selection of gently used books available for purchase.

The renovation of the Library's first floor was a public/private partnership between the White Plains Library Foundation, the City of White Plains and the State of New York. Check it out!
