Palm Beach Dramaworks
announces
 A New Cabaret Series

Inaugural Program Features Laura Hodos

June 9 – 11
in the Perlberg Studio Theatre at
The Don & Ann Brown Theatre

Come hear the music play! Palm Beach Dramaworks is pleased to announce the launching of its first-ever cabaret series, which will take place in the Perlberg Studio Theatre. The premiere event, which runs from June 9 - June 11, features local favorite Laura Hodos performing her acclaimed show, Julie and Mary and Ethel and Babs!, a program of songs associated with musical theatre legends Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, and Barbra Streisand. Selections include numbers from such shows as My Fair Lady, South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Gypsy, and Funny Girl. Hodos will be accompanied by Paul Reekie at the piano.

Next up, from June 23 – June 25, is Broadway veteran Avery Sommers, who will present a program of songs by Fats Waller, Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, George and Ira Gershwin, Marvin Hamlisch, Whitney Houston, Donna Sumner, and others. She will be accompanied by Phil Hinton at the piano.

The cabaret series is the brainchild of Bruce Linser, The Dramaworkshop manager. “We’re looking to engage audiences in new and exciting ways,” says William Hayes, PBD producing artistic director, “and Bruce realized that, despite the popularity of cabaret, very few local theatres offer these kinds of programs. So we decided to engage two remarkably talented performers, and see what happens. Our hope is that these shows prove to be so popular that we’ll be offering programs on a regular basis, perhaps once a month.”

Hodos is currently starring as the Lady of the Lake in Spamalot at the Kravis Center’s Rinker Playhouse. She has appeared in four musicals at PBD, most recently 1776, for which she earned one of her six Carbonell Award nominations. Sommers, a Carbonell Award winner who recently received her seventh nomination, this time for her performance in The Devil’s Music at Arts Garage, was seen at PBD in 2014 in Dividing the Estate. Her Broadway credits include  Ain’t Misbehavin’, Show Boat, and Chicago.

Performance times for Hodos’ and Sommers’ shows are Friday night and Saturday night at 8pm, and Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon at 2pm. Tickets are $30.

The series is sponsored by Kretzer Piano.
